Zak Brown wil McLaren ieder jaar in de Indy 500 zien rijden

McLaren-directeur Zak Brown zou graag zien dat zijn team jaarlijks terugkeert in Indianapolis om mee te strijden in de Indy 500. Dit jaar heeft het team gekozen voor een samenwerking met Andretti Autosports om Fernando Alonso in het prestigieuze evenement te krijgen. Samen met Alonso was hij in Alabama en daar kwam hij met die toekomstvisie.

Zak Brown: "Ik zou McLaren-Honda graag ieder jaar mee zien dingen om de prijzen in Indianapolis, maar eigenlijk waren wij dit pas vanaf 2018 van plan." De situatie bij het team van McLaren maakte echter de weg vrij volgens Brown. "Gegeven de omstandigheden hoe wij nu opereren in de Formule 1 en de wens van Fernando, ons team en Honda gaf ons ineens de kans en daar zijn wij bovenop gesprongen."

Hij wil verder nog niet vooruitlopen op 2018, de prioriteit ligt op dit moment om de coureurs van de Britse renstal een betere auto te geven dan ze op dit moment ter beschikking hebben.

Dus alleen focussen op de F1 doen ze al jaren niet meer.

      Ik ben bang dat gezien de problemen bij McLaren en tot de Indy 500 achter de rug is het team nog wel even besproken zal worden links en rechts.

    Ze zijn daar bij McLaren wel heel erg blij dat ze even de aandacht af kunnen leiden.
    "In de Indy is Honda wel echt heel erg goed. We willen daar voortaan ook maar actief zijn dan kunnen we toch nog goed nieuws brengen."

      Zak Brown is een marketingman, dus die zal elke kans op goed nieuws brengen maximaal uitnutten. Zolang het merk McLaren maar positief in het nieuws komt.

    Denk dat ze (Honda) het in de USA niet zover zouden laten komen dat een Honda aangedreven Nascar elke race uitvalt... Belangrijkste markt voor Honda, met Civic en Accordjes al jaren in de top tien van best verkochte auto,s aldaar....

      dacht al dat ik deze reactie,s zou krijgen... Gaat mij als voorbeeld van veruit de meest populaire race-klasse in de USA... (Wat Nascar toch echt is) Ik schrijf dan ook 'Niet zo ver zouden laten komen' ....

    Heb Zak Brown in meerdere interviews gezien, ook de Indy persconferentie.
    Wat een verademing die man. Een geslepen zakenman en daarnaast een
    erg sympathiek persoon. Aanwinst voor McLaren.

      Die kille Ron Dennis heeft McLaren wel twintig titels opgeleverd. Dat moet Zak nog maar zien te presteren. Tot dat gebeurt is Dennis de McLaren-legende, en Zak een marketeer.
