Renault start Grand Prix van Rusland met nieuwe voorvleugel

Renault zal tijdens de Grand Prix van Rusland met een nieuwe voorvleugel starten. De Franse renstal heeft dit jaar een forse verbetering laten zien waar het gaat om kwalificeren, maar het lukt de coureurs niet om die goede positie vast te houden.

Kwalificatie beter dan race

Technisch directeur van Renault, Bob Bell, hierover: "Op dit moment kwalificeren wij beter dan dat wij racen en dat heeft te maken met de wagens. Wij denken te weten waar dit aan ligt en hebben diverse aanpassingen gedaan op het gebied van aerodynamica en ophanging."

In Bahrein zijn volgens Bell de eerste onderdelen al getest waaronder een nieuwe voorvleugel. De balans van de wagen was tijdens een race niet zo goed als Renault voor ogen had. "Daar kan je tijdens een kwalificatieronde nog mee wegkomen dankzij nieuwe banden, maar gedurende een hele race is de prestatie van de auto veel minder consistent", zo zegt Bell.

Probleem zit in de bochten

Het team heeft in ieder geval goed in de gaten waar de problemen zitten. Zo geven ze aan dat de wagen 'nerveus' de bochten in gaat, midden in de bocht last van onderstuur heeft en de bocht verlaat waarbij het vinden van tractie ook weer 'een uitdaging' is. Bell: "Als wij deze zaken kunnen aanpakken hebben onze coureurs een zeer effectieve racewagen tot hun beschikking."

Sergey Sirotkin nam in Bahrein tijdens de in-season test een dag voor zijn rekening, maar zal ook in plaats van Nico Hülkenberg de eerste vrije training in Sochi voor zijn rekening nemen.

  Is dit een poging om Palmer wat meer zelfvertrouwen te geven? Zo van het seizoen is nog lang het is nog te vroeg om hem met zijn neus op de feiten de drukken.
  
  Het is niet te verwachten dat het gaat gebeuren maar Jolyon moet zich dan natuurlijk niet door Sergey Sirotkin te grazen laten nemen, want dat werkt averechts.

Toch is team Renault mij niet tegengevallen tot nu toe.

Palmer is de zwakste schakel, als er een sterkere coureur in zijn plaats had gereden met de Renault dan zouden ze i de loop van het jaar TR naar de kroon kunnen steken.

Misschien heeft Palmer het in zijn contract gezet: staat auto niet af in trainingen. Maar aan de andere kant kan je ook denken dat Palmer de training beter kan gebruiken dan Hulkenberg.
