Toto Wollf: "Eerdere resultaten in Sochi tellen niet meer"

Toto Wolff blikt op de website van Mercedes terug op Bahrein en kijkt vooruit naar Rusland. De teambaas van Mercedes zegt dat het team snel een streep moet zetten onder een zwaar weekend.

Twee podiumplaatsen niet slecht

Wolff: "Het is erg pijnlijk om een race op die manier te verliezen. Er waren teveel marginale verliezen tijdens de race en daarom konden we de zege niet pakken. We moeten alleen uitkijken niet te lang stil te blijven staan met tegenslagen maar vooral werken aan oplossingen voor de toekomst." De kersverse vader wijst erop dat twee podiumplaatsen zeker geen slecht resultaat is, maar als je twee rijders en wagens hebt die een race kunnen winnen dan doet het toch pijn.

Maar het team weet volgens Wolff waar de zwakheden liggen en zal deze problemen het hoofd bieden in de komende races zodat er weer gewonnen kan worden. "Je moet ieder probleem goed analyseren en een plan bedenken zodat die fouten in de toekomst niet meer gemaakt worden. Dat is iets wat wij de afgelopen jaren steeds gedaan hebben", aldus de teambaas.

Voorgaande resultaten tellen niet

Vooruit kijkend naar de Grand Prix van Rusland geeft hij aan dat het een totaal andere circuit is en met de nieuwe reglementen en niets vanzelfsprekend is. De afgelopen drie jaar waren het allemaal overwinningen voor het team van Mercedes met twee keer Lewis Hamilton en vorig jaar Nico Rosberg. "De trofeeën van de afgelopen jaren tellen niet als je heftige concurrentie hebt van Ferrari", zo sluit hij af met de hoop op een goed resultaat komende zondag.

Volgens mij is de race in Bahrein voor Mercedes vooral verloren gegaan door het uiterst onsportieve optreden van Hamilton en de daardoor opgelopen time penalty. Als Wolff dat nou gewoon had gezegd.
