Fernando Alonso wil in Sochi profiteren van 90-graden bochten

Fernando Alonso blikt vooruit op de Grand Prix in Sochi en er klinkt wat optimisme door in zijn teksten. Hij heeft de lat nog niet al te hoog gelegd en wil graag gewoon finishen met beide wagens, al lijkt dat al een hele opgave voor het team van McLaren.

Veel kansen om in te halen

Alonso: "Er zijn twee lange iets gebogen rechte stukken en snelle bochten op dit circuit, dat betekent voor ons met de huidige wagens een behoorlijke uitdaging. Maar de balans in de wagen is erg goed, dus we moeten optimaal profiteren van de 90-graden bochten die veel mogelijkheden om in te halen zullen bieden."

Er wordt door het team van McLaren en Honda hard gewerkt aan betere prestaties, dat realiseert Alonso zich maar al te goed. "Als beide wagens de finish halen kunnen wij dat als een positief resultaat beschouwen gezien de issues van de afgelopen weken. Ik heb de test in Bahrein gevolgd en ben blij dat we heel veel waardevolle data van de auto en de motor hebben kunnen verzamelen", zo zegt de tweevoudig wereldkampioen.

Profiteren van test in Bahrein

Het seizoen is nog lang volgens Alonso en doordat races elkaar kort opvolgen met ook nog vliegdagen ertussen is er weinig tijd voor ontwikkeling. "Maar de rondes die wij op de laatste dag van de test hebben gereden waren erg positief voor ons en hopelijk kunnen wij daar de komende races van profiteren", zo sluit hij af.

Maar het blijft doodzonde dat Alonso niet in een top auto rijdt. Ik hoop echt dat hij in 2018 in een auto zit die mee kan doen om de prijzen.

  Onderschat Alonso en Stoffel niet. Als ze kunnen finishen met hun beschikbare, tijdens de gehele race, aanwezige vermogen dan gaan ze nog verrassen.
