Toto Wolff: "Dynamiek Hamilton en Bottas onderdeel van succes vandaag"

Als Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff bij Sky Sports F1 voor de camera komt is hij duidelijk erg opgelucht.

Wolff: "Het was geweldig om na een intense race te winnen. Direct na de eerste pit was Kimi gelijk al sneller en dan weet je dat zwaar wordt." Gevraagd naar het verschil met vrijdag en zaterdag zegt de teambaas van Mercedes: "Ik sta hier dan wel om de credits in ontvangst te nemen, maar dat doe ik namens iedereen thuis en hier die het probleem van vrijdag hebben opgelost. We waren toen niet erg sterk op de lange stukken, we waren ook niet snel genoeg gekeken naar een enkele ronde en vandaag zijn wij heel sterk terug gekomen."

Veel druk van viervoudig wereldkampioen

De starts van de Mercedessen zijn niet altijd even goed geweest in het verleden, maar hier ging Bottas de beide Ferrari’s voorbij. "Onze starts zijn inderdaad beter dit jaar en het nieuwe systeem helpt daar ook bij. P3 is waarschijnlijk de beste positie vanwaar je wil starten in Sochi," aldus de teambaas. Op een gegeven moment zei Bottas tegen zijn engineer ‘praat niet tegen mij’. Toto over dat moment: "Aan het einde van de race had hij erg veel druk van een viervoudig wereldkampioen maar de communicatie was verder prima. Hij maakte op 1 remfout na geen fouten meer in de laatste ronden."

Goede samenwerking Hamilton en Bottas

Johnny Herbert wijst vervolgens Toto Wolff dat het voor Nico Rosberg 41 races duurde voordat hij zijn eerste race bij Mercedes won, Bottas deed daar maar 4 races over. Wolff: "Beide zijn ze zeer analytisch ingesteld, maar je kan ze niet in hokjes plaatsen want het zijn verschillende persoonlijkheden. Tussen Lewis en Valtteri werkt het erg goed en die dynamiek is onderdeel van het succes vandaag en dat gaan we zeker vieren. Daarnaast zijn er nog veel lessen te leren en veel progressie te boeken. We moeten weten waarom wij Lewis niet de auto konden geven die hij nodig had vandaag."

  Hoezo moet hij zijn mond houden. Hij is de persoon die namens Mercedes de media te woord moet staan... Beetje raar als die persoon zijn mond moet houden.

Wat een verschrikkelijk domme vergelijking van Herbert, de Mercedes was nog lang niet goed genoeg in de tijd van Rosberg en Schumi om races mee te winnen. Hoe komt ie erbij?

  Inderdaad ik las het ook... Dacht van kom op de Mercedes is nu een winnende auto dat was hij bij Rosberg in die tijd echt niet...

Bottas had puur geluk dat er twee Ferrari’s tussen hem en Lewis reden anders had die Wolff hem wel teruggefloten. Dat is ook wat de gladjanus met die “dynamiek” bedoelde. Door twee Ferrari’s was de poppenspeler machteloos.

Het was niet in beeld maar die Wolff sloeg niet alleen met zijn vuistjes op tafel maar trok ook z’n haren uit zijn kop.
Lauda was solidair en probeerde hetzelfde te doen ;)

  Vage post dit... Hamilton had bij lange na niet de snelheid gister. Ook zonder de ferraris had bottas bij hem weg gereden. Ben geen bottas fan, maar dit was een erg sterke race van hem

  @LARRY PERKINS: Je kunt zien dat je echt niet weet waar je het over hebt. Bottas zit er juist door dat Toto er zit. Als Hamilton er achter had gereden met het tempo dat hij gisteren reed hadden ze Bottas echt nooit gevraagd om hem er langs te laten. Mocht Hamilton echt sneller zijn geweest dan is het een ander verhaal. Het enige team dat in de geschiedenis zo opzichtig met team orders omging is rood en reed op plek 2 en 3.
