Toto Wolff: "McLaren heeft onze motoren niet nodig"

Honda en motoren, termen die de komende tijd nog geregeld samen in artikelen zullen terugkeren. De problemen zijn inmiddels bekend: McLaren kent een slechte start van het seizoen en het grootste probleem is de betrouwbaarheid van de Honda-motoren. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff verwacht dat ze er wel overheen komen. 

"McLaren krijgt Mercedes-motor"

Het team van Sauber maakte zondag officieel bekend dat het volgend jaar niet langer met een Ferrari-motor zal rijden, maar ook Honda als motorleverancier zal hebben. Eddie Jordan voorspelde het een paar dagen eerder al. Maar de oud teambaas deed nog meer voorspellingen: "McLaren rijdt volgend jaar met een Mercedes-motor." 

Geen Mercedes-motor nodig

Dat laatste is volgens Toto Wolff niet aan de orde. "Zij hebben onze motor niet nodig", zo vertelde hij aan Channel 4. "Zij hebben een samenwerking met Honda en die gaan door een lastige fase op dit moment. Maar McLaren en Honda hebben middelen, de mensen en de financiën om door deze moeilijke situatie heen te komen", aldus Toto Wolff.

      Kan het me niet voorstellen want Honda is toch gewoon een concurrent van Mercedes en er zijn grote belangen (geld) meegemoeid. Zou voor Honda ook ‘killing news’ zijn als zoiets naar buiten zou komen. En als die hulp al zou plaatsvinden zou het ook als ‘big news’ in elke krant en op iedere site worden gepubliceerd en dan hadden we het allang geweten.
      Dus nee, totdat dat gebeurt kan ik het me niet voorstellen, maar ik laat me graag verrassen.

      Zou best kunnen.
      Honda zou iets rudimentairs kunnen hebben wat nu niet werkt bij hun maar wat Mercedes zou kunnen kopiëren onder het mom van help een ander help jezelf.

      Toen men Toto dat hier direct heeft gevraagd, heeft ie dat stellig ontkend. Aan de andere kant was Boullier een stuk minder stellig erover..

      Is opzich niet vreemd dat een motorfabrikant een ander helpt, dat helpt namelijk de sport ook.
      Plus ze hebben het al gedaan bij ferrari :)

      @Larry, Olav Mol schreef erover in 2 van zijn boeken, en sprak erover tijdens F1 updates. En Olav staat er nou niet om bekend om te stoken of om nieuws naar buiten te brengen waar hij niet 100% van zeker is dat hij heft ofwel van Mercedes zelf heeft gehoord of van een geloofwaardig contact persoon die nauwe banden heeft met het Fabrieksteam.

      Redbull heeft ze zelfs beschuldigt van het helpen van Ferrari, en Bernie ecclestone houd ook tot de dag van vandaag vol dat ze in 2016 een helpend handje hebben gekregen.

    meer dan de helft wat teambazen uitkramen is gelogen...dat McLaren bij Honda blijft okay maar het volgende is gewoon dikke onzin:

      Is volgens mij wat ongelukkig overgenomen... het lijkt mij dat Toto wil zeggen dat Mclaren daardoor (financieel) niet kopje onder gaat. Sportief gezien heeft mclaren natuurlijk wel een betere motor nodig!

      Ik denk dat Mercedes geen motor in de McLaren zal plaatsen, omdat ze vrezen dat ze dan om de podiumplaatsen moeten gaan strijden. Williams en FI, doen het prima, op afstand, maar McLaren in combi met Alonso is te gevaarlijk voor Mercedes.
