Jenson Button is er 100% klaar voor: "Ik weet nog hoe een stuur werkt"

Jenson Button neemt voor de Grand Prix van Monaco de plaats in van Fernando Alonso die de Indy 500 gaat rijden. Maar zo vanzelfsprekend als McLaren-teambaas Eric Boullier liet doorschemeren was zijn rentree in de Formule 1 niet.

"Ik weet nog hoe een stuur werkt"

In gesprek met Channel 4 legt de Brit uit dat het een lastige beslissing was en eigenlijk verrast werd door het verzoek, maar twijfelde geen seconde. "Het stond niet op de agenda en wilde een jaar gaan ontspannen", aldus Button. Maar hij benadrukt dat hij er klaar voor is: "Ik voel mij er 100% klaar voor, ook zonder een test zou ik moeten weten hoe een stuur werkt."

Over Monaco zegt hij met een glimlach: "Als je daar niet hoeft te rijden dan vier je daar feest. Maar nu moet ik volwassen zijn." Of hij van zijn pensioen geniet antwoord hij lachend: "Ik ben zo gestresst, ik breng mijn tijd door op een ligstoel aan het zwembad."
