Honda niet zeker van upgrade voor Canadese Grand Prix

Honda is er niet zeker van dat het een grote upgrade van de power unit kan introduceren tijdens de Grand Prix van Canada, volgende maand. De Japanse fabrikant kampt sinds het begin van het jaar grote problemen met de betrouwbaarheid en snelheid van de motor.

Volgens insiders komt de motor van Honda momenteel 50 PK tekort op concurrenten Mercedes en Ferrari. Volgens Honda zijn er problemen geweest op de testbank in Japan en twijfelt Honda aan een inzet tijdens de Grand Prix van Canada. Honda zou ook de hulp hebben ingeroepen van Mario Ilien van Ilmor en zelfs Mercedes zou gevraagd zijn hulp te bieden de problemen op te lossen.

Yusuke Hasewaga laat in gesprek met Autosport het volgende weten over de mogelijke vertraging in het uitstellen van de introductie van de verbeterde motor: "Het Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is een circuit waar een sterke motor nodig is. Het zou fijn zijn wanneer wij ons verbeterde pakket daar kunnen introduceren, maar dan moeten we wel een goede betrouwbaarheid hebben."

Mocht de upgrade van de motor langer op zich laten wachten dan zou dat betekenen dat Alonso en Vandoorne het nog langer moeten uitzingen met de zwakste motor van het veld. Honda introduceerde dit seizoen tot dusver alleen wat verbeteringen om een betere betrouwbaarheid te kunnen garanderen. Dat de betrouwbaarheid nog altijd dramatisch is bleek de afgelopen twee races: in Bahrein werd de auto van Vandoorne van de startgrid geduwd en kon er niet gestart worden, in Sochi kwam Fernando Alonso niet verder dan de opwarmronde.

Ja of je hebt over 10 jaar geen F1 meer. Enerzijds zijn het concurrenten, anderzijds hebben zij elkaar nodig. Door de struggelingen van Honda stapt er geen andere fabrikant in en dat is pas schadelijk voor de sport.

Als Honda hulp gevraagd heeft aan Mercedes en als zij die hulp geboden hebben, dan is dat een zeer slechte zaak. Soort van matchfixing of in ieder geval onsportief de F1 spannend maken. Ik vind dit -mocht het waar zijn- de F1 nog meer schaden, dan een fabrikant die een slechte motor maakt.

  Als ik weet dat ze elkaar gaan helpen om het zo spannend te houden, dan hoeft het voor mij niet meer. (en nee hahaha ik heb niet de illusie dat daar iemand wakker van ligt)
  Juist omdat het Honda niet lukt, zou ik als fabrikant wel instappen en laten zien dat jij het wel kan. Dat levert pas wat op voor die fabrikant. En als de motor formule te complex is, dan moet de FIA maar eens na hun motor reglement kijken, want dan ligt daar het probleem en de oplossing.
  
  Want anders kom je uit op een standaard motor (bv allemaal Mercedes) en dat is ook geen F1 meer. (dus niet te verwarren met een onafhankelijke motor leverancier, dat is wat anders)

  Dat de motorregelementen anders moeten zijn de meeste wel mee eens. Echter duurt dat nog een paar jaar. Elkaar nu helpen is voor mij een vorm van overleven van de sport. Als Honda verdrinkt en daardoor stopt en Renault komt het jaar daarop met het nieuws dat ze stoppen door een ressesie of een dieselschandaal dan is het echt bedroevend.
  
  Zelf pleit ik voor voor openbaar maken van data van de motor van twee seizoenen.
