Alonso experimenteert met set-up en rijden in verkeer

Fernando Alonso sloot de tweede trainingsdag op weg naar de Indy 500 af met een 24ste tijd. De Spanjaard deed zijn eerste echte ervaringen op met rijden in verkeer op de Indianapolis Motor Speedway. De tweevoudig wereldkampioen Formule 1 was na afloop goedgeluimd.

Alonso: "We blijven experimenteren met de afstelling en met het rijden in verkeer. We hebben nog niet alles bij elkaar gebracht, maar dat hoeft ook nog niet. Ik denk dat we redelijk voor de dag zullen komen in de kwalificatie en de race."

"Het verkeer voelde zoals verwacht. Het is belangrijk om vlak achter je voorligger te rijden zodat je het volgende rechte stuk een slipstream pakt. Ik zit bij het beste team om dat te oefenen, aangezien Andretti Autosport zes auto's heeft ingeschreven voor de Indy 500."

"We reden met zijn allen dicht bij elkaar en mijn teamgenoten hebben me ontzettend geholpen. Ik leer van hoe zij anderen volgen, de bochten induiken en zich voorbereiden op een inhaalactie. Die informatie sla ik op en gebruik ik om zelf een beter oval-coureur te worden."

    Behoedzame aanpak. Lijkt me verstandig, eerst maar zien te kwalificeren. Maar gezien zijn ambities zal ie op een gegeven moment toch wat meer risico's moeten nemen.

    Ik heb me gisteren helemaal blauw gelachen om de commentaren naast de You Tube stream. De "GP2" grappen waren niet van de lucht.

    Verder doet Nando het goed. Bouwt rustig op.
    Hopelijk kan hij een super resultaat rijden in de magische 500.

    Kan niet wachten tot ze met kwalificatietrim gaan testen. Benieuwd hoe ie dat ervaart. Schijnt echt stalen zenuwen werk te zijn

      Arie L. heeft een column in RTLGP-magazine en dan schrijft hij er wel eens over.
      Zo min mogelijk vleugel, je vliegt nog net niet. Als je het leest kruipt het kippenvel over je rug!

      Wil niks afdoen aan het oval racing, maar als Alexander Rossi kan winnen, als rookie, en Max Chilton (!) er verdienstelijk zijn rondjes kan rijden, denk ik niet dat we ons heel erg zorgen moeten maken om Alonso.
      Bij winnen speelt een grote geluksfactor mee, maar dat Alonso zich de fijne kneepjes van het oval racing meester kan maken, daar ben ik van overtuigd.

    Lijkt het nu alsof alles en iedereen om hem heen zich compleet ten dienst stelt om Fernando zijn winst te bezorgen!? Of is dit alleen maar een verkeerde interpretatie omdat het hier om een F1 rijder gaat met nieuws op een F1 site?

      Het lijkt er inderdaad een beetje op, hoewel ze elkaar binnen het team allemaal helpen en dat wordt hier naturlijk niet allemaal gepost. Ik heb een paar uur de live stream opgehad en ook bij de commentator daar is het Alonso voor en Alonso na.

    Dag 3: hij heeft net de 4e tijd van de dag gereden, met nog een half uurtje te gaan. Zegt niet zoveel, ze gaan niet zo hard vandaag, maar toch leuk.

      Het zijn bijna allemaal "no tow" rondjes, vandaar dat het iets langzamer gaat en ik hoorde dat er best wel wat wind staat.
