Jolyon Palmer over eerste rond Monaco: "75 seconden chaos"

Jolyon Palmer is een groot fan van de Grand Prix van Monaco. De Renault-coureur won in 2012 en 2014 de GP2-races op het stratencircuit dus hij heeft goede herinneringen aan Monaco. Vorig jaar maakte hij zijn debuut in de Formule 1 en ging het minder goed: een crash in ronde 7 maakte een einde aan zijn race. 

Rich and famous

Ook de Brit erkent dat alles er omheen ook een grote rol speelt in de beleving. "Het is erg leuk en eigenlijk met niets te vergelijken. Een uniek evenement met alle glitter en glamour, de jachten en de rich and famous. Het is een speciaal weekend en eentje waar ik altijd van zal houden", aldus Palmer. 

75 seconden chaos

Maar als je eenmaal achter het stuur van een Formule 1-bolide kruipt is het heel anders volgens Palmer en dan in het bijzonder de eerste ronde: "Het is moeilijk om op adem te komen want het is 75 seconden chaos." Volgens Palmer wordt het echt hard werken de hele race, ronde voor ronde: "Je hebt geen kans om even je gedachten op een rijtje te zetten of om even rustig adem te halen. Mentaal is het de zwaarste race van het jaar", zo sluit hij af.

      En hij moet heel snel verbeteren, anders kan het dit jaar zomaar ineens over zijn voor hem!
      Ik had eind vorig jaar nog wel het idee dat hij kon aanhaken, maar dit is gewoon zeer slecht!

      Ja tot nu toe valt Palmer tegen tov Hulkenburg. Moet snel verbeteren. Ik denk dat Monaco hem wel ligt. Even los van zijn crash op het natte vorig jaar....

    Op een droog circuit rijd Palmer matig tot slecht, als het regent dan is hij altijd één van de eerste uitvallers en kan hij beter niet eens starten ;)

      Ik was altijd gecharmeerd van Jolyon , maar nondepin , hij stelt me wel op de proef .
      Toch schrijf ik hem nog niet af , hij kan me nog verrassen .
      Niet voor niets gp2 kampioen .

      Laten we niet te kritisch zijn op die Jolyon, als er een coureur is die hier na 2 jaar nog nooit aan de finish is gekomen, zelfs een x niet bij de kwalificatie, dan is het onze Max.

      En ik ben echt een fan van Max. Maar hier heeft hij nog wel iets goed te maken... (wel een geweldige race vorige keer, 1 van de weinigen die inhaalacties maakte, tot de vangrails).

    Het leuke voor Palmer en de rest is dat er in Monaco op elk moment van de race chaos kan ontstaan.
