Toto Wolff koestert spannende strijd met Ferrari

Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff geniet van het gevecht met concurrent Ferrari. De Duitse renstal deelde de voorbije drie seizoenen de lakens uit in de Formule 1, maar de regerend kampioen krijgt nu veel tegenstand van de Scuderia. En dat prikkelt de zintuigen van Toto Wolff.

"De afgelopen drie jaren waren buitengewoon, maar dit seizoen herontdek ik waarom ik verliefd ben geworden op deze sport. Ik hou van intense competitie. Dat houdt in dat je niet zomaar kunt winnen en niks cadeau krijgt, dat je er hard voor moet knokken. Daardoor is het gevoel alleen maar mooier als je wint, een zege smaakt nu veel zoeter", aldus Toto Wolff.

"Het is prettig dat we in het kampioenschap voor staan ten opzichte van Ferrari. Elke voorsprong is mooi, hoe klein ook. Maar dat is het ook, de verschillen zijn minimaal. We zijn in een felle strijd met Ferrari verwikkeld. Dit is opwindend en uitdagend, maar het vergt ook het uiterste van ons. Je kunt de krachtsverhoudingen niet baseren op Barcelona alleen."

Turbo

Mercedes heeft daarnaast de oorzaak van de uitvalbeurt van Valtteri Bottas in Spanje achterhaald. Wolff: "Het was een probleem met de turbo, een euvel dat we nog nooit eerder hebben gezien. Dat toont nog maar eens aan hoe zorgvuldig we moeten zijn. Dit is een technische sport en als je de limiet opzoekt, dan kun je op technische problemen stuiten."

"We verwachten dat Monaco een compleet ander verhaal wordt dan Barcelona. De omstandigheden, de werkomgeving en de uitdagingen zijn totaal anders dan waar dan ook. Alles moet kloppen om optimaal te presteren op dit stratencircuit. Je hebt niet elke factor in de hand, dus je moet proberen het geluk zoveel mogelijk af te dwingen. Elk weekend dienen we het maximale te geven; dat is de Formule 1 anno 2017."

Moet zeggen, bijna het ultieme PR praatje.... Maar het is nu eenmaal een gladjanus dus niks nieuws onder de zon... Kan altijd nog een goede tweedehands autoverkoper worden

Heel bar zo spannend. Tegenwoordig stofzuig ik het huis tijdens de race. Naast dat dit een coole dimensie aan het geluid, niet in de laatste plaats wanneer de zuigmond verstopt raakt in het gordijn, is het ook nog eens effiecient. Ook zijn er momenten waarbij de Nilfisk de robot stofzuiger op spectaculaire wijze weet te passeren zonder daarvoor ze klep te openen of z'n "booster" functie te gebruiken. In Monaco ga ik proberen de zwenkwieltjes zo halfweg de race te vervangen... geen idee of het bij zal dragen aan de beleving, maar mijn verwachtingen zijn erg hoog!

Gelul van Toto, hij slaat zijn knuisten kapot als ze verliezen. Hij had nog maar wat graag het dominante team geweest tot de nieuwe PU.

Zie ik in dit verhaaltje nu een mogelijke toekomst voor RBR als Mercedes klant zodat er in de verliefde race beleving van toto nog wat meer te herontdekken valt , of zou dat dan een te grote intense schok worden ?

  A.I.F1 Dat was eerder denk ik al " het probleem " van RB...Als ze zelfs zoals toen het leveren van een klanten motor al weigeren of , zoals Lauda nu zegt, een veto voor uit zou roepen , dan denk ik dat dat jou vraag wel met een ja beantwoord is ;)

Lauda vertelde dat de kans op een motorprobleem bij Bottas al voor de race bekend was dus daarover hoeft die Wolf niet zo spannend te doen.
