'Mercedes gaat door met Lewis Hamilton en Valtteri Bottas'

Het moet wel heel gek lopen of Mercedes gaat niet door met Lewis Hamilton en Valtteri Bottas in 2018. Bottas kwam afgelopen winter over van Williams. Na een voorzichtige start begint de Fin steeds beter in zijn ritme te komen, met als voorlopig hoogtepunt de winst tijdens de Grand Prix van Rusland.

Mercedes wil het nieuws niet bevestigen, maar teambaas Toto Wolff geeft alvast een hint: "Nico Rosberg heeft een belangrijke rol gespeeld in de ontwikkeling van de auto. Het is dan niet eenvoudig om als coureur die van een ander team komt in een keer te moeten presteren. We kunnen ons geen betere rijderspaar wensen dan Valtteri Bottas en Lewis Hamilton. In de jaren hiervoor was er regelmatig frictie tussen Lewis Hamilton en Nico Rosberg, maar Hamilton en Bottas kunnen prima met elkaar opschieten."

Volgens Wolff is Lewis Hamilton afgelopen winter verandert als coureur: "Toen Lewis nog samen reed met Nico Rosberg, zonderde hij zich steeds meer af. Lewis Hamilton is nu een echte teamspeler geworden."

      Daarbij zie ik Vettel niet weggaan bij Ferrari, en Dan en Max bij RBR. Dan zijn er nog maar weinig coureurs over die echt een verbetering zijn ten opzichte van Bottas.

      Zet de hulk maar eens in de Mercedes, dat vind ik wel een verbetering.
      Maar Bottas doet het zeker niet slecht, wat ik denk is dat ze Bottas makkelijker in een tweede rijders rol kunnen dwingen.

      Hulk is echt.niet beter dan Bottas. Laat Hulk eerst maar eens een podium scoren voordat hij naar een topteam gaat.

      Dat gingen ze in principe ook. Dat ROS met pensioen besloot te gaan had Mercedes verder ook geen invloed op.

    Denk dat er weinigen zijn die nu van hun stoel vallen van verbazing.

    Als Bottas zijn niveau houdt en niet te veel steken laat vallen blijft Mercedes tevreden.
    Als Bottas zijn niveau houdt en niet nog verder gaat aandringen bij zijn teamgenoot blijft Hamilton happy en bovendien een teamspeler die zich niet steeds meer afzondert.
