Ricciardo bevestigt update van Renault voor Bakoe

Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen had nog niets gehoord over een eventuele motorenupgrade voor de Grand Prix van Azerbeidzjan, maar teamgenoot Daniel Ricciardo gaat ervan uit over twee weken in Bakoe over een verbeterde aandrijflijn te beschikken. De upgrade van partner Renault zou de Oostenrijkse renstal nog meer richting Ferrari en Mercedes moeten stuwen.

Ricciardo deelde aan Auto Motor und Sport mede: "We zouden het gat nu steeds verder moeten dichten. In Canada zullen we niet net zo sterk zijn als in Monaco, maar we hebben wel veel nieuwe dingen op de auto. Kleine dingetjes, maar alles bij elkaar kunnen we toch spreken van een upgrade. Tot aan de zomerpauze komen er elke race nieuwe onderdelen aan en in Bakoe krijgen we hulp van een update van Renault. De data uit de windtunnel komt nu ook overeen met de werkelijkheid, dus we weten welke kant we op moeten met de ontwikkeling."

Ondertussen benadrukte Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner in Kleine Zeitung nogmaals dat Ricciardo en Verstappen ook in 2018 het rijdersduo voor zijn team vormen. "Beiden hebben waterdichte contracten zonder clausules of andere haken en ogen. Ik twijfel er geen seconde aan dat Max en Daniel volgend jaar de RB14 voor ons zullen besturen."
