Relatie met McLaren is uitstekend volgens Honda

Volgens Honda is de relatie met het team van McLaren meer dan goed, ondanks de aanhoudende problemen. McLaren liet zich eerder deze week kritisch uit over haar motorenpartner: volgens McLaren-directeur Zak Brown moet de situatie bij Honda heel snel beter anders gaat het team van McLaren op zoek naar een andere motorleverancier.

"De relatie met McLaren is nog altijd goed te noemen. Ik ben echter niet geschrokken van de uitspraken van Zak Brown, wij van Honda zijn ook niet blij. We bevinden ons in een lastig parket en weten dat het heel snel beter moet. We vinden het jammer dat we McLaren er nog niet van hebben kunnen overtuigen dat het beter gaat. Wij zijn de weg zeker niet kwijt, we moeten echter nog wel veel snelheidswinst zien te boeken", aldus Honda-baas Hasegawa.

Door de problemen met de betrouwbaarheid en snelheid van de Honda-motor hebben McLaren-coureurs Fernando Alonso en Stoffel Vandoorne nog geen punten kunnen scoren dit seizoen. McLaren staat daardoor helemaal onderaan in het constructeurskampioenschap.

      @Mr Marly, ik ben nog steeds zeer kritisch naar Honda. McLaren moet na dit seizoen breken met hen. Maar dat neemt niet weg dat ik McLaren's uitspraken in de media, gericht aan Honda, allesbehalve chique vind.

    We zitten al ruim 3 jaar naar dat gelul te luisteren vanuit het Honda kamp, maar gelukkig is de relatie met Mclaren nog altijd uitstekend.

    Het valt ook niet mee om samen te werken met McLaren.
    Terwijl Honda bezig was met het bouwen van de 2017 (RA617H) motor heeft McLaren (laat in de winter periode) een deal gesloten met BP-Castrol. Alle Honda V6 motoren maakte gebruik van Exxon-Mobil brandstof, die speciaal voor de Honda V6 is gemaakt. De brandstof is van essentieel belang om het verbrandings-proces te optimaliseren. Honda moest dus ineens op zeer korte termijn voor aanvang van het seizoen aanpassingen doorvoeren.
    Dit is dus weer zo'n voorbeeld (samen met o.a. het size-zero concept en de Honda motor exclusief voor McLaren) waarom het maar niet wil lukken.

      Een brandstof die niet "op maat" gemaakt is voor de motor kan zorgen voor (1)warmte/koelings-problemen en ook (2)trillingen door o.a. een slechtere (verdeling van de) verbranding en laat dat nou net twee problemen zijn waar Honda last van heeft. Ook zorgt het voor een hoger brandstof verbruik, waardoor de motor "geknepen" moet worden en ook dat (minder power en snelheid) is een probleem van de Honda motor.

      Het vertrek van ExxonMobil is een éénzijdige beslissing geweest van Exxon. Die wilden RBR sponsoren. De overstap naar Castrol is vervolgens in overleg met Honda geweest. Castrol en Honda hebben een lange geschiedenis samen...
