Toto Wolff: "Sensationele ronde Lewis Hamilton na uitstekende teamprestatie"

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff was erg te spreken over de prestatie van Lewis Hamilton. De Brit was de eerste coureur ooit die onder de 1:12 dook op het Circuit Gilles Villeneuve en nadat Sebastian Vettel in de buurt kwam deed hij er nog een schepje bovenop en bleef de Duitser drie tienden voor en pakte pole position. 

Wolff: "Ik ben inderdaad erg tevreden met de teamprestaties van dit weekend. Wij hebben de wagen na iedere sessie weer verder kunnen verbeteren en hebben goede beslissingen genomen omtrent de set-up. Dat resulteerde in een sensationele ronde van Lewis en pole position is daarvoor de beloning.

Over de opbouw van de kwalificatie zegt de Oostenrijker: "De eerste helft van de kwalificatie hebben we onderzocht welke getimede ronde het optimale was voor de bandenprestatie. Voor Lewis hing alles af van de laatste run, dus om daar nog drie tienden te vinden was erg indrukwekkend. Het brengt hem een belangrijke mijlpaal in zijn carrière door op gelijke hoogte te komen met Ayrton Senna als het gaat om pole positions. En ik weet dat het erg belangrijk voor hem is."

Over Valtteri Bottas zegt hij: "Derde op de grid is een sterke startpositie voor Valtteri, maar hij was niet helemaal comfortabel met de auto." Voor de race van vanavond verwacht hij weer een spannend gevecht met de Ferrari's.

      Als je er echt misselijk van wordt, is het misschien beter om naar een andere sport over te schakelen.

    Wolff het zonnetje in huis na Q3:

    “We moesten uit de diepste grotten omhoog klimmen en het vrijwel onmogelijke presteren. Voor Canada zag onze toekomst er nog grauw en grijs uit, snik.
    Hier in Montreal moesten we de afstelling vanaf min drie opbouwen en dan is er ook nog Pirelli en ook nog de roddels, ik heb het zo moe-oe-oeilijk..., maar de mannen en het team hebben het project geweldig opgepakt, snif, snif. En Lewis steeg boven zichzelf uit waardoor we nu weer op plus één staan. Snik, snotter, heb je een tissue?
    Het is nu weer aan mij en Niki – maar vooral aan mij want ik ben Toto – om ons weer in de underdogpositie te leuteren. Dus... een goede kwalificatie zegt niets over de race, want oh, oh, oh, wat zijn de Ferrari’s sterk en wat heb ik het zwaa-aa-aar...”

      Daar heeft hij ook gelijk in ondanks dat Hamilton pole reed.
      De Ferrari is gewoon iets beter dan de Mercedes, dus ben je in dat gevecht de underdog.

      Klopt dutchf1, ik denk dat in de race vettel wel net iets sneller is. Maar zoals zo vaak zullen de (virtual) safety cars wel een bepalende rol spelen dus daar moet je wat geluk mee hebben

    Mercedes heeft inderdaad een prima resultaat neergezet. Een teambaas, was het niet Horner? Heeft weleens gezegd dat een coureur per seizoen maar 1 perfect, echt perfect,rondje neerlegt. Misschien heeft Hamilton de zijne in Montréal gerealiseerd.
