Daniel Ricciardo: "Circuit Bakoe is echt zo smal als het lijkt"

Langzaam maken de Formule 1-coureurs zich op om richting Azerbeidzjan te vertrekken. In Bakoe ligt het stratencircuit waar volgende week weer gestreden wordt om de WK-punten. Zo ook Red Bull-coureur Daniel Ricciardo die vorig jaar een goede kwalificatie beleefde maar dat niet in een goed resultaat leidde.

Ricciardo: "Het circuit was zo leuk, ik heb er echt zin in om daar weer te gaan racen. Een stratencircuit is altijd weer spannend voor mij, ik hou van die circuits ondanks dat onze auto het er niet altijd even goed op doet."

Over het circuit zelf zegt hij: "Het circuit is echt zo smal als het lijkt en er zijn veel bochten, meer dan andere circuits op de kalender. Je kan een aantal interessante lijnen nemen rond het kasteel wat het een hele lastige sector maakt." De Australiër is blij met het erg lange rechte stuk: "Het geeft je tijd om na te denken en dat is prettig aangezien de bochten erg technisch zijn, je moet je goed concentreren."

Ricciardo wil dit jaar echt meer van de stad gaan zien, dat is er vorig jaar niet van gekomen. "Ons hotel ligt praktisch op het circuit en dat is fijn, maar het betekent ook dat je die omgeving niet snel verlaat.

Vorig jaar kwalificeerde Ricciardo op de derde plaats achter Nico Rosberg en Sergio Perez. Uiteindelijk eindigde hij op plaats 7 en was het Rosberg die de race won. Benieuwd of hij net als in Canada weer een 'shoey' kan doen.

Ik ga volgend weekend naar de TT, het zal wel onmogelijk worden om de uitslag van de race in Bakoe NIET mee te krijgen. Maar ik hoop s'avonds een spannende herhaling te zien , als ik het red ;)

Hopelijk dit jaar een race met meer spektakel, want vorig jaar gebeurde er niet veel.

Op sommige delen van het circuit staan links en rechts monteurs aanwijzingen te geven zodat ze er zonder de vangrails te raken doorheen kunnen.
