Zak Brown: "Geen spanning tussen Fernando Alonso en McLaren"

Alles is koek en ei tussen het team van McLaren en Fernando Alonso. Althans: dat is wat teambaas Zak Brown zegt.

Brown in de Spaanse krant AS: "Ik denk dat Fernando van de sfeer houdt hier en er is geen ander team waar hij liever voor zou rijden dan McLaren. Maar hij wil strijden om de hoogste plaatsen en dat begrijp ik."

Maar dat de relatie tussen McLaren en motorleverancier Honda op zijn zachts gezegd gespannen is, dat geldt niet voor de tweevoudig wereldkampioen. "Er is geen spanning tussen Fernando en McLaren. De relatie is nog nooit zo gezond geweest. Ja, hij is gefrustreerd, maar die frustratie delen wij ook," aldus de Amerikaan.

Of dat betekent dat de Spanjaard ook na dit seizoen blijft valt nog te bezien. "Wij zijn duidelijk geweest dat wij hem wil behouden voor het team en hij was duidelijk dat hij ook wilde blijven. Maar we hebben dan wel een betere wagen nodig en daar zijn wij nu volop mee bezig", zo sluit hij af.

De relatie tussen Alonson McLaren zal ongetwijfeld goed zijn. De relatie met Honda zal echter een tikkeltje minder zijn en waarschijnlijk ook de doorslaggevende factor zijn of hij blijft of niet.
