Alonso calculeert grid penalty in voor Azerbeidzjan

McLaren-coureur Fernando Alonso houdt er sterk rekening mee dat hij komend weekend gridstraffen voor zijn kiezen krijgt. Honda kondigde eerder aan dat het voor de Grand Prix van Azerbeidzjan een verbeterde aandrijflijn zal introduceren. Een motorwissel heeft voor Alonso grote gevolgen.

Qua turbo's en MGU-H zit hij al boven het maximaal toegestane aantal van vier exemplaren. Wat de overige componenten betreft zou hij in Bakoe op de grens komen. Alonso: "Nadat we in Canada dicht bij ons eerste punt van het seizoen kwamen, gaan we naar Azerbeidzjan met nog meer vastberadenheid. Het is echter geen geheim dat dit een lastig weekend kan worden voor ons."

"Na de problemen met de aandrijflijn is het waarschijnlijk dat we in Bakoe tegen straffen aan zullen lopen. Het karakter van dit circuit, met krappe en lange rechte stukken en haakse bochten, betekent dat het moeilijk voor ons zal zijn om in te halen. Het is daarentegen niet onmogelijk en we zullen vechten zoals we altijd doen."
