Cyril Abiteboul verwijst geruchten rond Robert Kubica resoluut van de hand

Renault-teambaas Cyril Abiteboul ontkent met grote stelligheid dat Robert Kubica op korte termijn zal terugkeren in de Formule 1. Begin juni testte Kubica voor het team van Renault en dat ging ondanks problemen met zijn arm na een crash prima. Aan de andere kant doet Jolyon Palmer het in tegenstelling tot Nico Hulkenberg het niet goed dit seizoen dus volgens velen is 1 + 1 nog altijd 2.

In Bakoe wordt nu gefluisterd dat Kubica de vrijdagtraining op Monza tijdens de Grand Prix van Italië voor zijn rekening neemt. Abiteboul hierover: "Nee, absoluut niet! Geen idee waar dat vandaan komt maar ik kan het direct van tafel vegen."

Ook ontkende de Fransman dat Kubica Palmer na de zomer gaat vervangen bij het team van Renault. "Ik wil duidelijk stellen dat de vragen over Robert en de vragen over Jo niets met elkaar te maken hebben. Er is voorlopig nog niets gepland voor Kubica, behalve een marketingevent in Goodwood waar hij weer in dezelfde auto zal rijden."
