Gerhard Berger bevestigt Formule 1-test voor neef Lucas Auer

Afgelopen week werden de geruchten rond het Formule 1-debuut van Lucas Auer steeds sterker. De DTM-coureur zou op de nominatie staan om bij Force India te gaan testen. Dat verhaal wordt nu bevestigt door Gerhard Berger, baas van de DTM-series en oom van Auer.

Berger tegen diverse media: "Zoals het er nu naar uit ziet krijgt hij de kans om in de Formule 1 bij Force India te gaan testen. De Oostenrijker is van mening dat de 22-jarige Auer klaar is voor zijn debuut: "Twee jaar geleden zou hij afgebrand zijn, maar nu verdient hij zijn kans. Of hij die kans aangrijpt is een ander verhaal."

Auer zelf hield zich afgelopen week nog op de vlakte en zei onder andere dat er nog niets zeker is. "Ik sta in contact met een aantal andere Formule 1-teams", zo zei de coureur. Auer rijdt vin de DTM met Mercedes-motoren en dus werd ook Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff om een reactie gevraagd. "Je moet altijd voorzichtig zijn in Formule 1, maar het ziet er goed uit voor Luggi", zo zei hij.

Auer verdient zeker een kans. In de Formule 3 ging hij erg goed en nu ook in DTM gaat hij erg goed. Hij sneeuwde wel beetje onder bij Verstappen en Ocon, maar die zijn ook van de buitencategorie.
