Alonso mikt op punten in drie races voor zomerpauze

De drukke maand juli bestaat voor de Formule 1 uit drie Grands Prix. Dit weekend is het circus neergestreken in Oostenrijk, volgende week reizen de teams en coureurs af naar Groot-Brittannië en in het laatste weekend van juli is er nog de Hongaarse Grand Prix. Daarna hebben de renstallen een paar weken om op adem te komen, dan breekt de zomerpauze namelijk aan.

Voor McLaren begint deze drukke periode met goed nieuws. Het Britse team beschikt in Spielberg namelijk over een verbeterde motor van Honda. De upgrade voor de aandrijflijn zou 30 extra pk's opleveren. Coureur Fernando Alonso springt nog geen gat in de lucht. "De cijfers van de testbank klinken goed, maar we moeten nog zien of het er in de realiteit ook uit komt."

"En zelfs als dat gebeurt, dan zullen we niet automatisch opeens top vijf-klasseringen in de wacht slepen. Het is een kleine stap in de juiste richting. Honda werkt dag en nacht om de motor te verbeteren. We hebben de laatste tijd een behoorlijk stijgende lijn tentoongespreid. We reden in de races voor Bakoe ook al steeds in de punten voordat het materiaal de geest gaf."

De Spanjaard verlangt echter meer. "Ik heb 1.834 punten gescoord in mijn carrière, dan zetten die twee punten uit Azerbeidzjan weinig zoden aan de dijk. Ons doel moet nu zijn om punten te scoren in de drie races voor de zomerstop, dan kunnen we met een redelijk gevoel op vakantie. Maar het moge duidelijk zijn, volgend jaar wil ik niet meer hoeven zwoegen voor de top tien."

Dat komt wel goed. Denk dat ze volgend jaar wel kunnen strijden met FI en Williams.
