Max Verstappen: "Zijn te langzaam om Mercedes en Ferrari aan te kunnen vallen"

Max Verstappen start de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk vanmiddag vanaf de vijfde startplaats. De jonge Nederlander bivakkeert al het hele weekend in de top zes en verwacht dat een vijfde plaats het maximaal haalbare zal zijn de race. Ondanks de kleine verschillen vooraan denkt Verstappen niet dat Red Bull het de coureurs van Ferrari en Mercedes lastig kan maken.

Verstappen is wel te spreken over de snelheid van de RB13 in de lange runs: "Onze racesnelheid is best wel goed, maar de mannen van Mercedes en Ferrari zijn hier te snel voor ons. Uiteraard zullen we gaan voor een beter resultaat dan onze startplek, mocht de situatie het toe laten. Het zou mooi zijn als er wat regen gaat vallen, maar ik vrees dat dat pas na de race zal gaan gebeuren. Het weer blijft echter lastig te voorspellen en zeker in de bergen. We zien het wel!"

Verstappen liet voor aanvang van het weekend weten dat zijn eerste prioriteit is om de race uit te rijden en punten te scoren. De eenvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar viel dit jaar al vier keer uit en heeft mede daardoor een flinke achterstand op de top vijf in het kampioenschap.

    Eerst maar eens de finish halen en als dat lukt heeft Max er ongetwijfeld het maximaal mogelijke resultaat uitgehaald.
    En liever een race in niemandsland achter de Ferrari’s en Mercedessen en ruim voor Ricciardo dan een ruk-dnf.

      Ja @Musky, jij hebt het over de startopstelling, sie was me bekend.
      In mijn post hierboven gaat het over finishen.

      In theorie moet Hamilton namelijk voor Verstappen kunnen eindigen, de praktijk weten we natuurlijk vanmiddag rond 16.00 uur pas.

      Bovendien staat Ric. voor Max op de grid. En dubbele punten in het kampioenschap. Wie krijgt de beste strategie denk je? Ric. natuurlijk. En dat zou terecht zijn want hij kan 1 van de Ferrari`s kloppen in het kampioenschap. Het word gewoon maximaal punten binnen harken voor Max en meer niet. Een verloren jaar.

      Niet helemaal waar @Manuel...Als Max Ric inhaalt en gewoonweg sneller is dan Ric dan krijgt normaliter Max de beste strategie...Zo werkt het bij elk team...Voorste/snelste coureur is beste strategie...

      Precies Blackpix. En Manuel, ik zou het niet zien als een verloren jaar. In zo'n jaar leer je veel meer dan in een jaar waarin je kampioen wordt.
