Betere kwalificatie moet Palmer laatste zetje geven

Renault-coureur Jolyon Palmer dient zich beter te kwalificeren om zijn kansen op punten te vergroten. Die opdracht gaf Renault-directeur Cyril Abiteboul de rijder mee voor diens thuisrace op het circuit van Silverstone. Palmer is na negen races in 2017 nog puntloos, maar hij finishte wel al drie keer net buiten de punten als elfde.

Voor een laatste zetje richting de top tien zijn betere kwalificaties nodig. Abiteboul: "We zijn tevreden over de race van Jolyon in Oostenrijk, ook al scoorde hij geen punten. Het was een indrukwekkend optreden waardoor hij met vertrouwen naar zijn thuisrace af kan reizen. Jolyon moet zich nu alleen nog beter positioneren op de startopstelling, daar heeft hij voor de races baat bij. Dat is een van zijn doelen en we hopen op dat vlak verbetering van hem te zien."

Palmer zelf: "Op de Red Bull Ring maakte ik een klein foutje in Q1 en als de tijden zo dicht bij elkaar zitten ben je gelijk de pineut. De race was vrij goed, ik zat alleen veertig ronden klem achter Lance Stroll. Wat ik ook probeerde, ik kwam er niet voorbij. Silverstone is mijn thuisrace en daar heb ik zin in. Ik heb een positief weekend in Oostenrijk achter de rug en het doel is om dat momentum door te trekken en mijn eerste punten te scoren."
