Romain Grosjean belde Toto Wolff om vrede te sluiten

Haas F1 Team-coureur Romain Grosjean heeft na de Britse Grand Prix op Silverstone met Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff gebeld om de lucht te klaren. De twee wisselden dat weekend via de media wat woorden over een voorval in de kwalificatie. Grosjean was van mening dat Lewis Hamilton hem had opgehouden en beschuldigde de stewards van klassenjustitie nadat Hamilton er zonder straf vanaf kwam.

Wolff reageerde door te wijzen op de lijst incidenten uit het verleden van Grosjean en zei dat de Fransman blij mag zijn dat hij überhaupt nog in de Formule 1 racet. De Haas F1-rijder zocht vervolgens contact met de motorsportbaas van Mercedes. "Ik las zijn commentaren en daar was ik niet blij mee. Ik heb hem gebeld. Het goede nieuws is dat ik zijn nummer heb. We hadden een goed gesprek, we hebben onszelf uit kunnen leggen. Er waren wat spanningen. Zij knokken om de titel en misschien zijn mijn woorden anders doorgegeven aan Toto, waardoor hij boos was."

"Ik had geen kwade bedoelingen tegen Lewis of Mercedes. Ik gaf alleen maar aan dat het me twee posities op de grid kostte. Achtste of tiende is een wereld van verschil in de Formule 1 en we strijden allemaal voor de beste mogelijke startpositie. Het was niet fair van mij om de GPS van Mercedes in twijfel te trekken, daar bied ik mijn excuses voor aan. Maar ik ben nog steeds van mening dat ik met een snelle ronde bezig was en drie tienden verloor achter Hamilton. Het is allemaal uit de wereld, ik heb met Toto gesproken en we zijn nog vrienden."
