Improductieve dag toch productief voor Verstappen

De eerste dag van de in-season test op de Hungaroring is niet helemaal voor niks geweest voor Red Bull Racing. Dat zegt coureur Max Verstappen, die mede door een motorisch probleem slechts 58 rondjes kon rijden. Ter vergelijking, Mercedes-rijder Valtteri Bottas legde bijna 100 ronden meer af. Maar in plaats van over een improductieve dag te spreken, was het volgens Verstappen juist een productieve dag. Red Bull Racing heeft veel uit kunnen proberen.

Er is waardevolle data verzameld en het gevoel in de auto was goed. Afgezien van de eerste run dan. "We probeerden wat nieuwe onderdelen en dat werkte eerst helaas niet, dus hebben we ze vervangen. Daar zijn de tests immer voor. We hebben best wat nieuwe onderdelen op de auto geprobeerd en dat is volgens mij altijd positief. Het is goed om die updates te begrijpen en te leren kennen voor de komende races. We hadden wat nieuwe aerodynamische onderdelen en alles werkte goed."

"Afgelopen weekend waren we een stuk beter tijdens de race in Hongarije door de update die we hadden. Tijdens deze testdag konden we ook weer leren of we een aantal zaken op konden pakken op het gebied van de balans. Zo kunnen we de updates nog beter laten werken en hebben we een goed beeld van waar we naar toe werken."

Verstappen sluit af met zijn gevoel voor de komende weken: "Ik ben positief. Je probeert altijd iets en we doen ons best. De auto wordt steeds beter, dus hopelijk kunnen we na een goede vakantie weer beginnen en kijken waar we staan in Spa."

Ik heb Verstappen weinig tot nooit kunnen betrappen op ongefundeerde positiviteit dus ik ga er vanuit dat het klopt.

  Ik vermoed dat ze tot nog wel later bezig waren. Rijden is één dingetje, data interpreteren en conclusies trekken is iets anders. Daar zal best tot 's avonds laat over gepraat zijn.

De auto word beter zegt ie... maar had wel de op één na langzaamste tijd van de dag... sauber had die eer....

Het is inmiddels vrij duidelijk dat RBR haar achterstand van dik 1,5 seconde in Maart heeft teruggebracht tot een halve seconde. Dan laat ik de kwali ff los want tegen die extra powersetting is niemand bestand. Maar puur op racepace als de rest even spaarzaam met de motor moet omgaan dan zitten ze er maximaal een halve seconde vanaf. Op banen als Hongarije en Singapore scheelt het nog maar twee tiende. Het is puur Renault zelf die tekort schiet want RBR heeft op dit moment gewoon weer een dijk van een auto staan en zowel Ferrari als Mercedes zijn heel heel heel blij dat ze geen motor geleverd hebben anders waren ze gewoon voorbij gestreefd met hun eigen materiaal!

  Die racepace waar jij het over hebt van een paar tienden is alleen maar leuk op een Mickey Mouse baantje....op de andere banen wordt het verschil overduidelijk en laten Mercedes en Ferrari de teugels een beetje vieren wanneer de achterstand van RB groot genoeg is.
  Laat RB maar lekker doorgaan met jammeren over die Renault motor en straks lekker met Honda in zee gaan. Feit is dat de wanprestatie van RB grotendeels aan hun zelf te wijten is door een zeer slechte auto te bouwen in de winter.

  En ze hebben die slechte auto gebouwd door verkeerde data uit de windtunnel, ja dat is een grove fout. Maar ik denk dat RB het grootste deel van de achterstand heeft teruggebracht. Nu hebben Mercedes en Ferrari niet stil gezeten en dat is de achterstand die ze nu nog hebben.
  
  Verder hoop ik dat ze nooit met Honda in zee gaan, tot de nieuwe motorformule gewoon met Renault/Tag Heuer doorgaan en dan kijken welke merken er bij de F1 instappen.
