Lando Norris: "F2 of Super Formula meest waarschijnlijke opties volgend jaar"

Vorige week ging een droom in vervulling voor Formule 3-coureur Lando Norris. De 17-jarige Brit mocht eindelijk testen in een Formule 1-bolide van McLaren, het team waar hij deel uitmaakt van het opleidingsprogramma. Norris verdiende zijn test op basis van de in 2016 gewonnen McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.

Norris maakte meteen indruk tijdens de test en reed de tweede tijd van de dag tijdens de in-season test op de Hungaroring. Gevraagd naar zijn kansen op een Formule 1-stoeltje voor volgend jaar laat Norris de volgende reactie optekenen: "Voor mij is de Formule 1 in 2018 denk ik geen optie. McLaren gaat waarschijnlijk door met Fernando Alonso en Stoffel Vandoorne en ook bij andere teams is weinig ruimte. Ik zelf mik op een stoeltje in de Formule 2 of in de Super Formula in Japan. De auto's in Formule 2 en Super Formula zijn krachtige bolides en geven een veel beter beeld van wat je zo ongeveer kunt verwachten in Formule 1. Wat het uiteindelijk gaat worden voor mij hangt mede af van wat van McLaren wil."

F2 liijkt de meest logische keuze, dan racet hij op de F1 circuits en kan hij even bij Mclaren binnenlopen tijdens het weekend.
