Zak Brown: "Fernando Alonso zal niet nog een Grand Prix missen dit jaar"

Afgelopen week doken er geruchten op dat McLaren-coureur Fernando Alonso de Grand Prix van Singapore over wil slaan om deel te nemen aan de seizoensfinale van het IndyCar-seizoen op de Sonoma Raceway in Californië. McLaren-directeur Zak Brown doet de geruchten af als 'grote onzin'.

Alonso en McLaren veroorzaakten een schok in april door aan te kondigen dat Alonso de Grand Prix van Monaco oversloeg om de Indy 500 te gaan rijden. De Spanjaard deed het erg goed in de beroemde race en maakte zelfs kans op de overwinning. Een probleem met de Honda-motor zorgde ervoor dat Alonso in het laatste kwart van de race vanaf de zijlijn moest toekijken.

De deelname van Alonso aan de Indy 500 smaakt voor de tweevoudig wereldkampioen wel naar meer: "Als ik heel eerlijk ben is de Indy 500 het hoogtepunt geweest van mijn eerste seizoenshelft. Ik heb er heel erg van genoten."

Alonso liet na zijn deelname aan de Indy 500 weten zeker na te denken over een toekomst in de Amerikaanse raceklasse, maar volgens Zak Brown zal Alonso de rest van het jaar gewoon deelnemen aan alle Formule 1 Grand Prix.
