Consistentie is de achilleshiel van Williams dit seizoen

Het team van Williams ontbeert de consistentie die nodig is om Force India tegenstand te bieden in de strijd om de vierde plaats bij de constructeurs. De prestatiecurve van de Britse renstal bestaat dit seizoen uit hoge pieken en diepe dalen. Daardoor moet het team vooral over de schouders naar achteren kijken, want Scuderia Toro Rosso, Haas F1 Team en Renault zijn niet ver weg.

Coureur Lance Stroll: "We weten dat consistentie onze achilleshiel is dit seizoen en we proberen dat te adresseren, maar dat is makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan. We staan niet elk weekend waar we willen staan. Dat ligt vooral aan de circuits, sommige banen liggen onze auto totaal niet. Soms werkt het wel, soms ook helemaal niet. Dat proberen we te verhelpen, want ideaal is het niet. De ene keer halen we makkelijk Q3, de volgende keer blijven we in Q1 steken. Dat moeten we oplossen."

Over zijn eigen performance is de jonge Canadees de laatste tijd redelijk tevreden. "Elke keer dat ik in de auto spring, is er wel iets waar we aan moeten werken, maar ik ben aardig tevreden over hoe het de afgelopen races is gegaan. Natuurlijk hebben we onze moeilijke momenten gekend, dat viel ook wel te verwachten voor mijn debuutseizoen. Je houdt rekening met tegenslag en daar heb je maar mee om te gaan."

"Maar we hebben ook prachtige momenten beleefd, zoals mijn eerste puntenfinish en mijn podiumplek in Azerbeidzjan. We hebben een aardig aantal punten gescoord in de eerste seizoenshelft. Tot nu toe gaat het dus best goed, ik mag niet klagen, maar we hebben ook nog een lange weg te gaan. We nemen het race voor race en focussen ons op één ding tegelijk."

Tsja..... Massa is al jaren volslagen inconsistent, was hij zijn laatste jaar bij Ferrari al.

En zijn teamgenoot wist dan wel vaak snelheid te vinden op die dagen dat Massa niet vooruit te branden was.

Dus of het nu aan de wagen ligt is nog maar de vraag.

Stroll is nog niet klaar voor F1, dat is de achilleshiel. Dat Bottas op het laatste moment vertrok en je moest settlen voor Massa kun je nu eenmaal niks aan doen. En de man heeft gewoon netjes gereden, zeven keer in Q3 is gewoon wat je van Williams mag verwachten.

Maar Stroll brengt niks, als Baku niet gebeurd was dan waren het gewoon een luttele 3 puntjes geweest en een hele hoop niks. Het is beter dan Palmer, maar dat is dan ook een maatstaf van niks.

  Ik moet je hier volledig gelijk in geven. In Baku heeft hij de klus die hij op een presenteerblaadje kreeg uitstekend geklaard, maar voor de rest heeft hij de snelheid gewoon niet om op eigen kracht respectabele resultaten te boeken.

  Baku was een complete "role of the dice" wie daar toevallig nog op het podium kwam. Om die race nou op te voeren als een prestatie van Lance geeft al aan van wat voor een bedenkelijk niveau die knaap is.
  
  Sainz was ook zo'n flappie die achteraf vond dat hij een goede race had gehad daar op basis van zijn resultaat, terwijl hij eigenhandig in bocht 1 spinde.

  @Maximo, als rookie en coureur die duidelijk geen controle heeft/had over zijn auto, dan is een compleet foutloos weekend in Baku behoorlijk goed. Helemaal als je je bedenkt dat de latere winnaar de auto in de muur had gezet, en vrijwel iedere coureur een keer rechtdoor is gevlogen of de muur heeft geraakt.

Consistentie, maar met name de strategie vind ik. Het gebeurt te vaak dat Williams sterk begint, maar door de strategie in de tweede helft van de race terugvalt tot achter hun directe concurrenten.

Chassis is gewoon niet goed genoeg, op aero gebied lopen ze achter en mechanische tractie is slecht.

Ook redelijk behoudend qua coureurs, zet er een topper in die de gemoederen eens lekker op scherp zet en ze staan veel verder vooraan.
