Meer dan P3 zit er voor Red Bull Racing niet in dit jaar

Red Bull Racing zal dit seizoen genoegen moeten nemen met de derde plaats in het kampioenschap voor constructeurs. Dat weten ze zelf maar al te goed bij de Oostenrijkse renstal. Red Bull-motorsportadviseur Helmut Marko windt er in gesprek met Formula1.com geen doekjes om. "Derde is niet goed genoeg voor Red Bull Racing, maar in onze situatie met de motor die wij hebben is dit het maximaal haalbare."

De titelstrijd gaat tussen Mercedes en Ferrari bij de constructeurs en tussen Sebastian Vettel en Lewis Hamilton bij de coureurs, met Valtteri Bottas als outsider. Op wie zou Marko zijn geld zetten? "Ik geloof in Vettel, want ik ben bekend met zijn mentale kracht. En Ferrari heeft een tandje bij geschakeld. Silverstone was in mijn ogen een uitzondering. Ferrari had duidelijk de sterkste auto van het veld in de eerste seizoenshelft."

"Alleen door diverse omstandigheden konden ze hun kansen niet optimaal benutten. Ik heb nooit onenigheid gehad met Vettel. Feit is dat we soms met wel zestig punten achterstand de zomerpauze in gingen en dan nog de titel wisten te veroveren met hem. Sebastian zal de zomerstop gebruiken om sterker terug te komen. Dat is hoe ik hem ken."

Kubica

Over een mogelijke terugkeer van Robert Kubica in de Formule 1 zegt hij: "Voor zijn ongeluk was Robert een van de snelste coureurs van het veld. Bovendien verliep zijn samenwerking met Renault succesvol. Als zij denken op dezelfde voet verder te kunnen, waarom niet? Ik zou het geweldig vinden als Kubica een comeback kan maken."

De Pool is 32 jaar wel aardig op leeftijd. Marko: "Wat zijn leeftijd betreft, ik geloof dat Max Verstappen de uitzondering was. Over het algemeen moet je daarbij naar de persoonlijkheid van de rijder in kwestie kijken. Een enkeling, zoals Verstappen, is er als tiener al klaar voor, anderen hebben meer tijd nodig. Als Kubica het nog steeds in zich heeft, waarom niet?"

Sainz

Het gonst van de geruchten rondom Scuderia Toro Rosso-coureur Carlos Sainz, maar Marko laat niets aan duidelijkheid te wensen over. De Spanjaard gaat voorlopig nergens heen. "Carlos racet op Spa-Francorchamps gewoon voor Toro Rosso", besluit Marko.

Ferrar als winnaar? Ik betwijfel het. Monza, Spa, Suzuka, Brazilië, VS. Lijken mij allemaal banen waar de Mercedes beter zou moeten zijn. Maar wie weet zou mooi zijn voor de F1 als Ferrari weer eens iets wint.

  Ik hoop Ferrari puur omdat ik de Mercedes kliek eens wil zien afgaan.

Wat zou ik graag Robert in een TR zien naast Carlos, weet wel dat dat niet gebeuren gaat maar Marko is ook fan van zo te lezen.

Zal ik eens wat verklappen , volgend jaar is het ook p5 en 6.
Renault pu zal weer mete en achterstand aanvangen.
Max gaat eind 2018 met tegenzin weg, hij had zo graag met RBR de titels gepakt... ;-)

De auto zelf is ook niet goed genoeg, kijk maar maar monaco waar de motor veel minder invloed heeft. Het is een feit dat de Renault motor minder is maar dat is niet de reden dat ze 3e staan.
