Stefan Johansson: "Alonso moet nog een jaar bij McLaren blijven"

Voormalig Formule 1-coureur Stefan Johansson denkt dat het beter is voor Fernando Alonso om nog één jaar bij het team van McLaren te blijven. De opties om naar een ander team te gaan zijn na dit seizoen heel beperkt en daarom moet de Spanjaard nog een jaar geduld hebben.

"Het ziet er in de huidige situatie voor de betere coureurs lastig om te verkassen na dit seizoen", aldus de coureur met 79 Grand Prix achter zijn naam in een interview op zijn eigen website. "Stel dat Alonso McLaren verlaat, waar gaat hij naar toe? Mercedes en Ferrari hebben waarschijnlijk geen stoeltje voor hem en Red Bull is ook al bezet," aldus Johansson. 

Maar volgens Johansson is er ook nog potentie bij het de Britse renstal: "Als McLaren Honda aan de kant zet en met een andere motor gaan rijden dan heeft Hongarije laten zien dat ze direct een serieuze concurrent zijn."

Johansson reed in het verleden zelf voor Ferrari en McLaren en geeft Valtteri Bottas complimenten: "Wat Bottas op dit moment doet is fenomenaal. Hij houdt Lewis scherp en er lijkt ook een goede harmonie in het team te zijn. Dat bleek ook wel in Hongarije op het moment dat Lewis zijn plaats teruggaf aan Valtteri."

    Als hij echt voor de winst wil gaan zal hij naar de Indy 500 moeten gaan, bij McLaren zal het volgend jaar ik denk wel beter gaan, maar ik zie ze nog niet gaan strijden voor het podium.

      En toch hoop ik dat Honda het volgend jaar echt op de rit heeft.
      En da Alonso blijft en dan ook meestrijd om de overwinningen.
      Dan zijn de afgelopen jaren niet helemaal voor niets geweest voor Alonso.

    Als Honda het heel goed voor elkaar kan krijgen kan McLaren gewoon weer de winnende auto krijgen. Ze hebben vaker diepe dalen gehad en gerommel met motoren. Wat te denken begin jaren '90 toen Honda juist wegging. De Peugeot motor die vaak in rook opging, maar ook de McLaren-Mercedes was zeker niet elk seizoen dikke pret. Soms waren de wagens fenomenaal (1998, 1999, 2000, 2007, 2008 en 2010 en 2012 waren gewoon prima) en soms was het janken met de pet op. Wat ik wil zeggen is dat McLaren, in tegenstelling tot veel andere teams altijd de potentie heeft weet top te worden, daarom ziet men McLaren ook als topteam.
    Gewoon blijven Alonso!

      Damon Hill: Dit is weer een reactie waar ik het helemaal mee eens ben. Alonso heeft verder geen andere keuze volgend jaar, mits dat Alonso Indy 500 gaat rijden en het stuurwiel alsmaar naar links de bochten door rijd, om Hond(s)a dol van te worden!!

      Dat .. en dat terug top worden is niet zo veraf. Het is nu kwestie van de tijd goed te benutten. Spa en Monza eerder zien als test, ipv safe spelen om een punt te halen, en de motor met upgrades te testen en pushen op performance en bedrijfszekerheid om dan in singapore voor het podium te gaan. Simples :)

      Alleen is het gat nooit zo diep geweest. Probleem is dat McLaren vast zit. Ofwel Honda, ofwel een klantenteam worden en geen van beide zijn echt gewenst op dit moment. Verwachten dat Honda Mercedes en Ferrari gaat bijbenen is gewoon te veel.

      Bij Red Bull past hij niet in de teamfilosofie, bij Mercedes kan hij niet naast Hamilton maar Ferrari? Daar weet je het nooit, die zeggen pas wat ze willen als ze het al geregeld hebben.

    Pas als Alonso weggaat bij McLaren zal het beter gaan daar.

    De geschiedenis leert dat Alonso na 2007, precies op het verkeerde moment van team wisselt.

      Of het zegt wat over de kwaliteiten van Alonso. Heb ooit eens ergens opgepikt, dat Alonso (achter de schermen) steevast ieder begin van het seizoen de Ferrari de hemel inprees, om vervolgens gedurende het seizoen steen en been te klagen over dezelfde auto. Iets wat bij Sergio niet heel erg lekker viel.
