Charles Leclerc: "Angst bestaat niet, ook niet na ongeval van Jules Bianchi"

Charles Leclerc mag dan pas 19 jaar zijn, maar als we de kenners mogen geloven dan duurt zijn Formule 1-debuut niet lang meer. Maar een paar jaar geleden werd hij geconfronteerd met de dood van zijn goede vriend Jules Bianchi wiens vader een kartbaan had waar de carrièredroom van Leclerc begon. 

Charles Leclerc groeide op met Bianchi die een belangrijke rol speelde in de droom om Formule 1-coureur te worden. Leclerc: "Aan mijn vader vertelde ik dat ik mij niet zo goed voelde zodat ik niet naar school hoefde. Vervolgens ging ik met Leclerc naar de kartbaan in Brignoles met Jules. Eenmaal thuis vertelde ik dat ik later een coureur wilde worden." 

Uiteindelijk komt zijn jeugdvriend om het leven, maar dat heeft geen invloed op Leclerc. "Angst bestaat niet. Zelfs na het ongeval van Jules op Suzuka heb ik nooit enige twijfel gehad over mijn toekomst. Ik weet dat gevaar een onderdeel van het racen is, maar als ik in de cockpit zit dan voel ik alleen maar een adrenaline rush", aldus het 19-jarige talent van Ferrari.

Zijn vader Hervé overleed eerder dit jaar op 54-jarige leeftijd en vertelde altijd over Senna. Hij vertelt: "Ik groeide op geïnspireerd door die legende en hij was mijn held. Ik heb de kwalificatierondes van Senna in Monaco zo vaak gezien. Dan zag ik hem rijden over de straten waar ik iedere dag liep."

      Niet leuk om te horen dit van Leclerc, voor de familie van Bianchi, kan ik me voorstellen.
      Zelfs ondanks dat het grotendeels diens eigen fout was, hoop je toch als vader en moeder stiekem dat mensen er wat van leren en ermee omgaan, niet dat ze ermee proberen op te scheppen.

      Vind niet dat hij opschept. Hij vertelt gewoon hoe het werkt voor hem, en waarschijnlijk voor de meesten.

    De ouders van Leclerc konden hem ïn 2010 financieel niet meer helpen en hij moest stoppen met racen. Vader Bianchi heeft hem toen verder financieel gesteund, omdat zijn talent anders verloren zou gaan. Top!

    Frage: "Ohne die Unterstützung der Bianchi-Familie wären Sie also nicht da, wo Sie jetzt sind?"
    Leclerc: "Definitiv. Dass Nicolas sich meiner angenommen hat, was größtenteils Jules zu verdanken, der ihn dazu gebracht hat. Als drohte, dass ich aufhören muss, hat Nicolas mir finanziell geholfen."

    Leclerc is ook mentaal beresterk, een week na de begravenis van zijn vader wist hij alweer een F2 race te winnen, klasbak!

    Angst hoort geen plek te heb achter het stuur.
    Respect voor de gevaarlijke situaties wel.
    De vlaggen waarmee het gevaar wordt aangegeven horen strikt te worden opgevolgd, niet nog ff doorjakkeren.

    Terecht dat Leclerc niet angstig is, heeft hij ook geen enkele reden toe.
    Het ongeval van Bianchi was een freak accident, zoeits dat praktisch nooit voorkomt, en waarbij die droevige einduitkomst tot stand is gekomen door allerlei andere factoren dan de veiligheid van de wagens.
    De wagens waarin hij (ongetwijfeld) op korte termijn in komt te rijden zijn veiliger dan ze ooit geweest zijn. Daarmee kun je eenvoudig 300+ rijden met de veiligheid van een rollercoaster. Maar kleine tip; gebruik vooral een naam als Senna niet te vaak, zeker niet om jezelf mee te vergelijken, dat was nml. een held uit de tijd dat F1 nog écht iets voorstelde, ipv de klasse die we nu kennen vol met overbetaalde en overbeschermde kinderen
