FIA bevestigt enorme grid penalty voor Vandoorne

Het was al verwacht, maar de internationale autosportbond FIA heeft het nu ook officieel bevestigd: Stoffel Vandoorne heeft een grid penalty van 35 plaatsen voor de Grand Prix van België aan zijn broek gekregen. Honda heeft de Belg van McLaren voor het weekend op Spa-Francorchamps voorzien van een nieuwe specificatie van de motor.

Aangezien Vandoorne daarmee voor alle componenten van de aandrijflijn het toegestane aantal exemplaren (verder) overschrijdt, loopt de straf voor de thuisrijder op tot 35 plekken. Mercedes heeft een motorupgrade meegenomen naar België en coureurs Lewis Hamilton en Valtteri Bottas zijn voorzien van hun vierde ICE, turbo en MGU-H.

Ook Haas F1-duo Romain Grosjean en Kevin Magnussen rijdt dit weekend met verse krachtbronnen, evenals nieuwe batterijen en Control Electronics. Williams-coureur Lance Stroll is eindelijk overgeschakeld op zijn tweede exemplaar van de Energy Store voor dit seizoen en Sauber-rijder Pascal Wehrlein beschikt eveneens over een nieuwe Energy Store.

Zwaar irritant zulke enorme straffen, zeker voor Stoffel in zijn thuisrace. Geef gewoon een straf van 3 plekken ofzo, dit is zwaar overdreven imo

  Dan zal iedereen veel vaker een nieuwe motor steken en over het max aantal componenten gaan en dat is nou net niet de bedoeling...

  vind het ook helemaal niks. Gewoon afschaffen die regel, in z'n geheel wat mij betreft..
  Dan kan vandoorne nu toch ook alvast 4 compleet nieuwe motoren er in leggen en 245 strafplekken pakken......

  @Joop: de regels daarover zijn na vorig jaar aangescherpt... Dat mag niet meer, als je onderdelen vervangt mag je op een gegeven moment niet meer de vorige versie van het onderdeel gebruiken.

voor ons is het een raar systeem, in andere culturen, landen krijg men een gevangenisstraf van 345 jaar. Zouden we dat ook hier toepassen, worden moordenaars in sommige gevallen niet al na 6 jaar vrijgelaten. Dus ja, misschien is het systeem niet eens zo gek. Want anders krijg je straks weer het gezeur dat de straffen te licht zijn en men er voordeel van heeft

  @Stoffelman. Op Monza en in Singapore (etc.) gaat Stoffel voor een nieuwe motor 345 jaar achter slot en grendel. Alleen in België staat er 35 gridplaatsen voor.
