Daniel Ricciardo: "Wisselen naar afstelling Max Verstappen is een optie"

In tegenstelling tot teamgenoot Max Verstappen is Daniel Ricciardo nog niet tevreden met de balans van zijn RB13. De Australiër probeerde afstellingen uit met weinig neerwaartse druk om het gebrek aan topsnelheid te compenseren, maar is tot de conclusie gekomen dat het tijdverlies in de tweede sector daardoor te groot is. Ricciardo probeert het straks in de derde training nog eens, mocht dat niet werken dan zal er een compromis gesloten moeten worden betreffende de afstelling.

Ricciardo geeft toe dat hij gisteren met zo weinig neerwaartse druk reed dat zijn bolide af en toe aanvoelde als een Formule 3-wagen in plaats van een Formule 1-bolide met veel grip: "Ik moet eerlijk bekennen dat we er nog niet uit zijn met de afstelling. We wisten vooraf dat we iets moesten gaan verzinnen om het gebrek aan topsnelheid het hoofd te bieden. In de sectoren een en drie werkte de afstelling prima, maar in de tweede sector gleed ik alle kanten op. Max Verstappen reed met een andere afstelling. Hij verliest daardoor meer tijd op de lange rechte stukken, maar maakt veel goed in het tweede deel van het circuit. Misschien moeten we wel wisselen naar de set-up van Max Verstappen als onze afstelling niet blijkt te werken."

Ricciardo was in beide trainingen langzamer dan teamgenoot Verstappen. In de eerste sessie was het verschil heel klein, in de tweede sessie was Verstappen bijna acht tienden sneller dan Ricciardo.

  Het is algemeen bekend dat bij RBR de info uit beiden garages volledig gedeeld worden...Logisch ook, omdat het uiteindelijk een teamsport is...Zo kun je altijd het maximale uit beiden auto's halen :)

  Dan had je gisteren op moeten letten. Verstappen reed met veel downforce en ricciardo met weinig. Puur om te testen welke afstelling sneller was.

Ik zeg: kwalificatie met de afstelling die Max heeft om zo hun beste rondetijden te rijden en de race met Ricciardo's afstelling. In de bochten komt er toch niemand voorbij en in de race hebben ze de topsnelheid nodig om hun positie te kunnen verdedigen of zelf in te halen.

Toch wel te gek dat een man die al zoveel jaren inde F1 rijd van een jonkie als Max iets moet "leren" over de afstelling. dat bewijst de klasse van Max voor de zoveelste keer. Ik zeg....Max op p3 tijdens de kwalificatie. eindigend op P1 na regenrace.

  Beetje een cheap shot, het team probeert twee opties. Opmerkelijk dat die commentator dat niet door had, Ricci zet paars in sector 1 en 3 (waar denk je dat dat vandaan kwam) en verliest 1,5 seconden in sector 2 , denkt die man dat hij een foutje maakt. Zelfs de 2e ronde ging er geen lichtje branden. Plaatsvervangende schaamte. Jammer, wel een prettige man om naar te luisteren. Ben benieuwd of ze nog wat hebbe gevonden tusse set-up 1 en 2 vannacht.
