Fernando Alonso hakt tussen Japan en VS knopen door

McLaren-coureur Fernando Alonso wil voor de Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten duidelijkheid over zijn toekomst. De Spanjaard acht het onwaarschijnlijk dat hij volgende week in Japan al meer weet over wat hij volgend jaar gaat doen. De tweevoudig wereldkampioen bezit een aflopend contract en is in onderhandeling met McLaren over een nieuwe verbintenis.

De verhalen gaan dat hij inzet op een verlenging voor één jaar om de ontwikkeling van McLaren met Renault af te wachten. Alonso zegt er zelf over: "De volgende pauze is een goed moment om knopen door te hakken. Tussen Maleisië en Japan is er nauwelijks tijd en zijn we druk met van alles op en naast de baan. Mijn wens en deadline is om na Japan een beslissing te nemen. Ik zal kiezen voor hetgeen waar ik me het beste bij voel."

"Ik wil volgend jaar weer competitief zijn. Ik wil weer op het podium staan, ik wil knokken om overwinningen en het kampioenschap. Ik heb nog wat meer informatie nodig voordat ik mijn besluit kan nemen, maar tegelijkertijd ben ik optimistisch omdat McLaren een van de beste teams uit de geschiedenis van de Formule 1 is. Alles is aanwezig om er wat moois van te maken."

Hoewel het vertrekkende Honda voor een groot deel garant stond voor het salaris van Alonso, benadrukt de Spanjaard tegenover Sky Sports F1 dat het in de onderhandelingen met McLaren niet over zijn loon gaat. "Geld is niet het probleem. Het probleem is hoe competitief we kunnen zijn, dat is het enige."

Ik ben benieuwd. Alleen vrees ik dat er weinig uitwijk is voor Alonso naar bijvoorbeeld de Indycar. De topteams zitten daar al vol namelijk.
Ik zou het persoonlijke vet vinden als Alonso gewoon bij McLaren rijdt en de Indy500 en Le Mans mee pakt. De eerste wereldkampioen sinds Clark en Hill die binnen een seizoen zowel Le Mans als Indy als in de Formule 1 rijdt.

  idd, veel keuze heeft ie niemeer. Maja, langs den andere kant, weet ie ook wel dat mc laren volgend jaar een top motor heeft ;-)

  Zo en hoe bengelke, volgend jaar strijdt ie mee om het kampioenschap! Dat was ook zijn vereiste om te blijven geloof ik, met dat renault torretje komt dat helemaal goed ;-)

  Het heeft voor Alonso geen zin om geheimzinnig te doen over zijn opties, McLaren-Renault is zijn enige optie in F1. Dat wordt volgend jaar hoogst waarschijnlijk het 4e team.
  Heeft ie een mogelijkheid het beter te doen in Indy? Nee, omdat daar ook al de topzitjes vergeven zijn. Alonso heeft dus weer te lang gewacht. Zijn financiële topdagen zijn voorbij, dat weet ie zelf ook wel. Bijvoorbeeld ergens meer geld vangen in ruil voor een lagere plek op de competitieladder is ook niet voorhanden - dus kan ie makkelijk roepen dat geld het probleem niet is.
  
  Conclusie: de afweging is tegen welk bedrag ie zijn nest wil uitkomen voor een incidenteel podiumsuccesje. Kortom, wel geld.

Zou het leuk vinden als hij nog ff blijft rijden in F1. Altijd een fan geweest van ALO, maar begrijp dat hij een betere moto/auto wilt hebben. Super toffe gast !

Met Alonso’s geschiedenis zeer verstandig om voor slechts één jaar verlenging te gaan. Naast dat het bij McLaren afwachten wordt hoe het gaat, lopen bij andere teams dan ook aardig wat contracten af.

McLaren zal daar wel mee akkoord gaan want ze hebben geen passend alternatief voor Fernando.

Hij heeft als het gaat om de F1 alleen nog de keuze doorgaan bij McLaren of naar een andere raceklasse. Ik hoop dat hij nog even blijft. In mijn ogen nog steeds de beste op de grid. Wel vind ik zijn communicatie enorm egocentrisch. Hij zegt zelf dat McLaren een van de beste teams uit de geschiedenis is. Hij mag vaak iets meer dankbaarheid uitstralen.
