Grosjean: "Opeens zag ik dat mijn achterband weg was"

Haas F1 Team-coureur Romain Grosjean heeft de openstaande putdeksel waardoor hij in de tweede vrije training voor de Maleisische Grand Prix crashte nooit gezien. Nietsvermoedend dook de Fransman bocht 13 op Sepang in, even later stond hij in de bandenstapels. Hij bleef gelukkig ongedeerd bij dit ongeluk.

Over de crash zegt Grosjean: "Dit is natuurlijk niet ideaal. Ik heb de putdeksel niet gezien en opeens voelde ik een harde klap aan de achterkant. Ik zag dat mijn rechter achterband weg was en voor het wist schoof ik van de baan. Ik mankeer niets, dat is het belangrijkste."

"In de herhalingen heb ik gezien dat er een putdeksel omhoog stond in de bocht, die heb ik geraakt. Ik weet zeker dat de internationale autosportbond FIA er alles aan zal doen om te voorkomen dat zoiets later dit weekend nogmaals gebeurt."
