Jolyon Palmer krijgt gridstraf van 20 plaatsen voor vervangen motor

Jolyon Palmer is de vierde coureur die een penalty krijgt te verwerken voor het vervangen van onderdelen van de Renault Motor. Eerder al waren Carlos Sainz, Valtteri Bottas en Fernando Alonso de klos wegens vergelijkbare problemen.

Palmer begint aan zijn vijfde motor en zijn zesde turbo en MGU-H en dat betekent in totaal een penalty van 20 plaatsen op de grid. Carlos Sainz had er al 20 gekregen, maar wacht mogelijk nog een straf nadat hij in VT3 te vroeg de baan op ging terwijl de lichten nog op rood stonden. Bottas moet vijf plaatsen naar achteren en Alonso start waarschijnlijk achteraan met in totaal 35 plaatsen straf.

Palmer reed vanochtend zijn beste vrije training deze week in Japan. Hij zette een tiende tijd neer, 3 plaatsen achter zijn teamgenoot Nico Hülkenberg.
