Zak Brown: "McLaren jaren verwijderd van eigen IndyCar-team

Het duurt nog jaren voordat McLaren een eigen IndyCar-team op de been zal brengen. Dat zegt McLaren-directeur Zak Brown. Afgelopen jaar reed Fernando Alonso de Indy 500 en daarvoor werd een samenwerking aangegaan met het team van Andretti. 

Nu McLaren de Honda-motoren inlevert voor de krachtbronnen van Renault lijkt het onwaarschijnlijk dat er volgend jaar een vergelijkbare uitstap wordt gemaakt. Alonso zei daarover: "Als ik in de Formule 1 blijf dan is dat omdat ik geloof dat ik volgend jaar kan winnen. Dan zal ik dus ook in Monaco zijn want ik wil daar geen punten laten liggen."

Brown wil ook de verwachtingen van de fans temperen: "Voordat wij activiteiten ontplooien buiten de Formule 1 moeten wij er zeker van zijn dat het ons niet afleidt van de inspanningen die wij voor de Formule 1 doen. Daarnaast moeten wij concurrerend zijn en als derde commercieel ook nog interessant." Dat alles te namen brengt Brown tot de volgende conclusie: "Ik denk dat we jaren verwijderd zijn van een eigen IndyCar-team.

Misschien lees ik niet goed hoor, maar dat is toch precies wat hij zegt? Focus op Formule 1 en IndyCar of andere projecten zijn ze jaren van verwijderd. Wat mij betreft draai jij een prima uitspraak negatief.

    @Zak concentreer je eerst op de terugkeer van McLaren aan de top. De rest is bijzaak. Ik verwacht dat McLaren in 2018 het 4e team wordt.

      Ze moeten toch een excuus hebben als het straks allemaal wat minder loopt. Afgelopen jaren was Honda de pisang, en over 3 jaar de gedeelde focus op de F1 en Indy. Leg eerste Alonso maar eens vast! ik zie ze ook als 4e, maar dan wel vechtend met force India, en niet met Rbr.

      VANHEUTZ, daar heb je gelijk in hoor. Mijn opmerking is iig meer een sneer naar Mclaren. Waar er twee vechten hebben er twee schuld. Laten ze bij Mclaren eerst maar eens alle zaken op orde gaan hebben voor ze beginnen te roepen dat als Rbr kan winnen Mclaren dat volgend jaar ook kan. Je gaat van een beroerde Honda motor naar een minder beroerde Renault klantenmotor.

    Ben benieuwd wie er volgend seizoen voor Alonso in de plaats komt.
    Hij wil voor het kampioenschap gaan strijden en dat gaat volgend
    seizoen echt nog niet lukken en het seizoen daarna is afwachten.
    Voor het geld hoeft hij het niet meer te doen, dus hij kan gewoon
    gaan doen wat hem leuk en uitdagend lijkt.
    Ben heel benieuwd.

      Eens dat ze volgend jaar niet om de titel mee zullen doen.

      In de laatste jaren als Mercedes klant waren ze qua chassis ook al niet top. Toen moest er fabriekssteun komen om weer te kunnen winnen, en nu ga je weer terug naar een klantenteam van een motorbouwer die iig minder dan de huidige Mercedes krachtbron is.

      Kortom moet McLaren wel met een beestachtig goed chassis komen willen ze voor zeges mee gaan doen. Valt dat tegen, nou.... dan kan je ook zomaar nog een harde dobber aan de Mercedes klantenteams hebben.

      Wat Alonso betreft heeft die in de F1 weinig andere keus dan McLaren, dus wil hij in F1 actief blijven: dan zal dat toch bij McLaren wel zijn.

      Voor het geld hoeft het dan misschien niet meer, maar voor veel minder zie ik hem ook niet blijven. Zeker niet zolang ook hij zelf wel weet dat succes met McLaren/Renault nog verre van zeker gegarandeerd is.

    Er is simpelweg tot 2020 ook reglementair geen plek voor een nieuw team in de IndyCar. Of het nou McLaren, Ferrari of Williams zou zijn.
