Pierre Gasly: "Voordeel voor 2018 dat ik al met Honda heb gewerkt"

Pierre Gasly ziet het als een voordeel voor volgend jaar dat hij al gewerkt heeft met Honda. De motorleverancier zal het team van Toro Rosso van de krachtbron voorzien en Gasly heeft dit seizoen met Honda gewerkt in de Super Formula.

Gasly tegen het Franse minute-auto.fr: "Het is duidelijk een groot pluspunt voor mij om al met Honda te hebben gewerkt voordat ze bij Toro Rosso de motoren gaan leveren. De cultuur bij Honda is duidelijk heel anders, maar ook de wijze van communiceren en werken."

Communicatie een stuk beter

Gasly probeert komend weekend de titel in de Super Formula binnen te halen en moet daarom de Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten laten schieten. Maar ook hij had even tijd nodig om de Japanners te begrijpen. "Het duurde even om uit te vinden op welke manier goed met ze samen te kunnen werken, maar nu weet ik een stuk beter hoe ik met ze kan communiceren", aldus de Toro Rosso-coureur. "De Japanners willen constructief communiceren zonder iemand de schuld te geven. Ze hebben de neiging overal ja op te zeggen, ook al zijn ze het er niet mee eens", zo gaat hij verder.

Samen met Honda verder ontwikkelen

En dan neemt hij een klein voorschot op een Toro Rosso-stoeltje voor volgend jaar: "Met deze ervaring hoop ik de kans te krijgen om mij samen met Honda volgend jaar verder te ontwikkelen in de Formule 1. Ik had een goed jaar met ze in Japan en heb races voor ze gewonnen, onze verstandhouding ontwikkelde zich erg goed."

Momenteel lijkt niemand echt zeker van een stoeltje voor 2018 bij Toro Rosso. Daniil Kvyat zou volgens geruchten in Austin slechts voor één race terugkomen. Daarnaast is het afwachten hoe Brendon Hartley zich houdt tijdens zijn eerste race in de Formule 1.

  Nee zeggen wordt als onbeleefd gezien in Japan. Kan voor hilarische situaties zorgen als je wat aan het uitleggen bent. Staat men driftig hai te roepen en te buigen terwijl ze niet begrijpen wat je eigenlijk bedoelt.

Misschien is Gasly wel de sleutel tot succes voor de samenwerking tussen Honda en STR? En Pakte McLaren (Alonso) het allemaal wel zo handig aan? Ik ben wel erg nieuwsgierig waar deze samenwerking uiteindelijk toe leidt.
Een ding weet ik zeker, het zijn bij Honda geen pannenkoeken of koekenbakkers!

Gasly zit nu nog op een roze wolk maar ook hij zal dit jaar nog worden afgerekend op zijn prestaties bij TR. Minimaal 1x punten halen moet zijn doel zijn. Als hij na 5 races op 0 blijft steken dan kan dat teleurstellend genoemd worden.

  Ik denk dat Vandoorne zeer goed weet hoe het bij de Japanners werkt. Ik geloof ook dat Honda veel meer respect heeft voor Vandoorne dan voor Alonso.
