Pascal Wehrlein hoopt op duidelijkheid toekomst voor Abu Dahbi

Richting het einde van het seizoen worden de geruchten over een stoelendans traditioneel sterker. En voor sommige coureurs die nu wel een stoeltje hebben betekent dat onzekerheid, zo ook voor Pascal Wehrlein.

Wehrlein naar Williams?

Afgelopen week vierde Wehrlein zijn 23e verjaardag en gevraagd of het een leuke dag was antwoordde hij tegen het Duitse Auto Bild: "Ik was liever 25 geweest." Hiermee doelt de Sauber-coureur op de wens van Williams Racing-sponsor Martini om minimaal één coureur van 25+ in de wagen te hebben. Wehrlein zou in de race zijn voor een stoeltje bij Williams en hij bevestigt dat Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff daarover in gesprek is met de Britse renstal.

Voor laatste race duidelijkheid

Zijn tijd bij het team van Sauber lijkt erop te zitten aangezien het team zeer waarschijnlijk een talent uit de stal van Ferrari een plaats in het team geeft. Dit zou dan gaan om Charles Leclerc of eventueel Antonio Giovinazzi. Wehrlein over zijn toekomst: "Ik hoop dat ik voor de laatste race in Abu Dahbi weet wat ik zal gaan doen."

Ook zijn teamgenoot Marcus Ericsson gaf gisteren tijdens de persconferentie aan geen zekerheid over zijn toekomst te hebben. "Er is niets zeker in de Formule 1 en het is belangrijk voor mij om de laatste races goed te rijden en te laten zien dat ik volgend jaar ook op de grid hoor te staan", aldus de Zweed.

Persoonlijk zie ik het wel in Wehrlein zitten, misschien nog wel meer dan in Ocon!
Ik zou het oprecht jammer vinden als hij verdwijnt uit de f1.

Wehrlein heeft de pech dat Mercedes met Ocon al een groeibriljant in huis heeft. Misschien volgend seizoen weer DTM en dan in 2019 met Mercedes in de FE?

  Daar werd op Formel1 al wel over gespeculeerd, aan de andere kant zou Williams ook nog steeds een optie kunnen zijn (vermits ze een Martini ambassadeur kunnen vinden).

  Wat betreft WEH ben ik volledig met je eens en volgens mij is hij het afgelopen jaar ook behoorlijk gegroeid. Dus ik zou hem wel een mogelijkheid bij Williams gunnen.

  @SCHWANTZ34, wat ik nog steeds niet begrijp waarom je jonge coureurs hebt. Als zich dan de situatie met Rosberg voordoet waarom dan niet Wehrlein of Ocon genomen? Vond jij het risico dan zo groot? Geen van tweeen hadden haantjes gedrag getoond tegenover Hamilton maar ze zouden hem allebei wel op scherp zetten. Ik vind en vond Bottas geen aanwinst.

Er moeten gewoon meer teams zijn. Misschien toch dat klantenchassis maar eens toestaan? Wanneer je kijkt naar hoe Haas voor een groot deel hun auto bij elkaar koopt, laat het geheel klovernemen van een chassis dan maar ook toe. Of dat een team met een tweede team rijdt ala STR voor RedBull een paar jaar terug, waar chassis tussen uitgewisseld worden.
