Haas F1 te vroeg gestopt met ontwikkeling van VF-17

Haas F1 Team heeft de aandacht te vroeg verschoven van de huidige auto naar de wagen voor volgend seizoen. Dat stelt teambaas Günther Steiner vast in gesprek met Ekstra Bladet. Haas F1 is de laatste weken weggezakt en de Amerikaanse renstal was in Mexico zelfs langzamer dan Sauber. Dat Kevin Magnussen er toch punten scoorde, was een klein wonder.

Steiner geeft toe dat het vizier te vroeg op 2018 is gericht. "We namen de beslissing om de aandacht te verschuiven naar volgend jaar omdat we enkele fundamentele veranderingen wilden doorvoeren die we niet met de huidige bolide uit konden proberen. Achteraf gezien zijn we te vroeg gestopt met de ontwikkeling van de VF-17. Hadden we dat moeten doen? Ik weet het niet."

"Het antwoord op de vraag of dit het waard was krijgen we in februari bij de wintertests, denk ik. Op dit moment hebben we een aardig windtunnelmodel dat mooie cijfers produceert, maar ik weet niet wat de teams die langer door zijn gegaan met de ontwikkeling mee kunnen nemen naar 2018. Daar komen we pas achter zodra we met zijn allen met de nieuwe auto's de baan op gaan."

Haas F1 Team heeft ook nog niet in een vrije training getest met de 'halo', het systeem om de hoofden van de rijders beter te beschermen dat volgend jaar verplicht is. Steiner: "Om heel eerlijk te zijn hebben we nu nog belangrijkere zaken aan ons hoofd dan het oefenen met de halo."

Dit seizoen opgeven terwijl je kansloos bent, en hoogstens paar puntjes kan mee pakken, om volgend jaar sterker op het veld te staan, lijkt me altijd beter als door modderen.

Ik denk dat Grosjean ook al bezig is met het komende seizoen: Zijn ontwikkeling staat ook behoorlijk stil en hij zakt ook steeds verder weg

  Magnussen is ook niet mijn stijl, dat manier van sturen is een beetje show off, soms lijkt het op dat soms hierdoor of van de baan spinnen of ongelukken mee veroorzaken :)
