Stoffel Vandoorne: "Alles moet kloppen om top tien te halen"

Na een reeks onbekende circuits is het Yas Marina Circuit bekend terrein voor McLaren-coureur Stoffel Vandoorne. De Belg won in de Formule 2 de race in 2014 en 2015 en gaat in de kwalificatie voor een plekje in de top tien. Vandoorne is tevreden met de vrijdag, maar beseft ook dat er nog verbeterd moet worden om de strijd aan te kunnen gaan met Williams en Force India.

"Eigenlijk ging het best wel goed. De eerste training was niet zo belangrijk, aangezien we de kwalificatie en race in het donker afwerken. Wat dat betreft hadden we meer aan de tweede training en daarin voelde de auto goed aan. De verschillen in het middenveld zijn klein en we moeten nog verbeteren om een gooi te kunnen doen naar een plek in de top tien tijdens de kwalificatie. We weten waar we de auto nog moeten verbeteren om dat doel te bereiken", aldus Vandoorne in gesprek met Sky Sports.

Vandoorne sloot de dag uiteindelijk af als twaalfde, Fernando Alonso eindigde op de tiende plaats.
