Christian Horner: "Wat een ronde van Daniel Ricciardo"

Gemengde gevoelens in het kamp van Red Bull Racing na afloop van de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi. Waar Daniel Ricciardo de pers met een glimlach te woord stond na een sterke kwalificatieronde en een plek op de tweede startrij, baalde teamgenoot Max Verstappen flink van zijn zesde startplaats. Verstappen kampt al het hele weekend met balansproblemen in de RB13.

Teambaas Christian Horner kijkt met gemengde gevoelens terug op de laatste kwalificatie van het jaar: "Het was even geleden, maar hebben weer een typisch rondje van Daniel Ricciardo gezien. In zijn laatste run viel alles op zijn plaats en zo zette hij de auto op de tweede rij. Bij Max Verstappen ging het wat minder goed. Sinds vrijdagmiddag is hij al niet tevreden met de auto en hoewel het in de kwalificatie iets beter ging, is hij nog steeds niet tevreden. We hopen in de race flink wat punten te kunnen scoren om het jaar goed af te sluiten."

Red Bull Racing zal het jaar als derde in het kampioenschap afsluiten. De Oostenrijkse renstal verloor veel punten in de eerste helft van het jaar en moest het dit jaar qua snelheid afleggen tegen Mercedes en Ferrari.

    Was zeker een snel rpndje van riciardo. Maar te tevreden met een p4 als je het mij vraagt . Horner dan. Dat riciardo tevreden is is begrijpelijk

      Ric moet ook zoet gehouden worden kijkend naar 2018 en dat is begrijpelijk.

      Duidelijk dat Ricciardo gepaaid moet worden, ze willen hem gewoon ontzettend graag houden en dat lijkt me ook in het belang van Verstappen.

    Wat ik meer opvallender vind, is dat de RBR in Azië (Singapore, Japan, China en Maleisie) altijd stukker beter presteert dan elders. Zo ook in Bahrein en Abu Dhabi presteren ze altijd een stukje minder. Hoe kan dat? Klimaat?

    On: Goeie ronde van Ric. Ik ben benieuwd wat ie kan uitrichten bij de start.

      Temperatuur van het asfalt ligt hier een stuk lager, hier gaat red bull altijd slecht op. Voor mercedes is het net andersom, die doen het juist beter bij lagere temperaturen.

      Ik denk dat de prestige van p4 in het kampioenschap hier meer een rol speelt. Er zit weinig verschil tussen RIC en RAI in de WK-stand.

    Het was een goed rondje. En alles viel op zijn plaats. Daniel zal dat nodig blijven houden wil hij met Max blijven concurreren op zaterdag. Goed voor het team wanneer je elkaar scherp houdt. Bij Ferrari en Mercedes is dat een stuk minder. Renault en Force India hebben ook goede balans in het team.

    Wat ik typisch vind is dat ze bij Max in VT1 een nieuwe voorwielophanging en andere vleugel hebben gebruikt om te testen voor 2018. Hij ging als een speer in VT1. Ik denk dat er iets niet lekker zit bij het opnieuw aanbrengen van de oude voorwielophanging. Namelijk na het verwisselen had Max veel last van onbalans en weinig grip. Het lijkt mij stug dat dit te wijten is aan de verschillende voorvleugels. Ook het feit dat Max en team geen kans hebben gezien de afstelling beter te krijgen zet mij voor een raadsel. Vooral omdat Max en zijn team altijd wel de juiste configuratie weten te vinden in de nacht van vrijdag op zaterdag. Dus ik vind het erg vreemd.

      Heeft vooral te maken met de veel hogere temperatuur van het asfalt in VT1. Je kunt mij niet vertellen dat ze de oude wielophanging verkeerd gemonteerd hebben, en dit niet hebben gezien of weten te herstellen.

    Vooral opvallend dat je het verschil zo goed kon zien ,zelfs op tv/ pc scherm... Ricci zn auto strak en op rails, Verstappen (zn auto) zenuwachtig ,veel correcties , niet goed uitkomen bij een volgende bocht etc etc...
