Stroll en Frijns bevestigd voor de 24 uur van Daytona

Williams-coureur Lance Stroll en Robin Frijns doen eind januari mee aan de 24 uur van Daytona. De jonge Canadees en de Nederlander zullen teamgenoten zijn bij Jackie Chan DC Racing, zoals eerder reeds voorspeld. De twee krijgen gezelschap van Felix Rosenqvist en Daniel Juncadella.

Stroll: "We gaan naar Daytona om te genieten, competitief te zijn en om te proberen te winnen. Ik wil altijd de beste en zo competitief mogelijk zijn. Ik deel de auto met een aantal goede vrienden en ik zal er veel plezier aan beleven, want ik vind het altijd heerlijk om te racen. We zijn vier jonge honden en we kennen elkaar al langer, dus ik verheug me op de 24 uur van Daytona."

"Daar hoef ik me geen zorgen te maken om brandstof besparen of bandenmanagement. Het wordt hard racen en omgaan met verkeer, dat is waar ik van hou. Ik heb goede dingen gehoord over Jackie Chan DC Racing en ik kan niet wachten om er onderdeel van uit te maken. Ik bedank Williams voor de toestemming om op Daytona te racen zodat ik wedstrijdritme kan opdoen."

Opvallend is dat Stroll eerder dit jaar nog riep dat hij niet snel weer aan de 24 uur van Daytona mee zou doen, na een eerdere deelname in 2016. "Het is een geweldige race, dat staat buiten kijf, erg cool. Maar het had voor mij niet echt een meerwaarde. Het is een leuk evenement, zeker wanneer je in een competitieve auto zit en competitieve teamgenoten hebt. Het is geinig om eens in een andere auto plaats te nemen. Maar het is puur voor de lol, meer niet. Als training is het niet erg bruikbaar."

"Als ik ooit tijd heb, misschien doe ik dan weer een keertje mee. Maar ik heb nu andere prioriteiten in de winterpauze. Het is ook wel eens goed om een tijdje niet in een raceauto te kruipen." McLaren-reservecoureur Lando Norris zag het toen al anders. "Voor mij vormt het een goede graadmeter om mijn fitheid te testen en om wedstrijdscherpte te behouden. Dat zijn belangrijke factoren op weg naar het seizoen 2018."

Norris neemt in het weekend van 27 en 28 januari ook deel aan de 24 uur van Daytona, samen met McLaren-rijder Fernando Alonso namens United Autosports. Frijns is dus eveneens van de partij. De Nederlander kijkt uit naar een leuke editie met drie prettige teamgenoten, maar ze gaan wel voor goud.

Deze jongens zijn al een poosje terug vastgelegd, echter was het wachten tot het moment dat de laatste puntjes op de i waren gezet en de datum waarop het team het bekend wilde maken.

  of papa stroll koopt het zitje voor Frijns hahaha (als het zo'n goede vrienden zijn), stel dat (ik denk voor 99,9% dat het niet gebeurt) het gebeurt dan kunnen we wel zeggen dat het Williams-Stroll F1 zal gaan heten :-p

  'Frijns is zeker beter dan Stroll' hmm ik denk dat het andersom is we gaan zien waar Stroll staat als hij 26 is .. laat de burns maar komen jongens!
  
  Niet tegenstaande dat het buiten gewoon schandelijk is dat Frijns niet in de F1 is geraakt, hij is eigenlijk de enige van zen generatie die er niet is geraakt en het zeker verdiende.
