Kubica: "Mooi verhaal alleen niet voldoende voor rentree"

Robert Kubica hoopt volgend jaar voor het eerst sinds 2010 weer in de Formule 1 te racen, maar zijn comeback kan niet alleen op basis van sentimenten gestalte krijgen. De Pool heeft de gunfactor, maar hij beseft dat hij moet bewijzen dat hij een terugkeer waard is. De eenmalig Grand Prix-winnaar hoopt dat zijn optreden bij de bandentest in Abu Dhabi overtuigend genoeg is geweest.

Kubica: "Er wordt de laatste tijd veel geschreven en gezegd. Dat is normaal, want iedereen zit met vragen en heeft een eigen mening. Veel mensen willen me graag terug in de Formule 1 vanwege het mooie verhaal. Het verhaal is leuk, maar dat alleen is niet voldoende voor een rentree. Mocht ik de kans krijgen, dan moet ik er klaar voor zijn. Ik moet zo goed mogelijk voorbereid zijn."

"Ik waardeer de steun, want ik voel dat veel mensen hopen en wensen dat ik een stoeltje voor 2018 krijg, maar uiteindelijk weet ik hoe de vork echt in de steel zit. De realiteit is dat zodra ik in de auto stap, dat hele verhaal geen moer meer uitmaakt. Dan is het aan mij om één te worden met de wagen en het team en dan moet er gewoon gepresteerd worden."

"Ten eerste moet ik er zeker van zijn dat ik ertoe in staat ben en elke dag in de auto geeft me veel vertrouwen dat het goed uit kan pakken. Om aan mijn eigen eisen te voldoen dien ik een hoog niveau te halen. Als ik terugkeer, is het niet om als veldvulling te dienen. Ik ben zeven jaar weggeweest en ondanks mijn beperkingen wil ik me van mijn beste kant laten zien."

Zag onlangs volgens mij via Ziggo dat hij met zijn 'zwakke' rechterhand een deurgreep van een auto per ongeluk sloopte dus volgens mij is het geen issue :P

    Weet iemand toevallig of zijn rechterhand dusdanig functioneert dat hij op dezelfde manier kan schakelen zoals elk andere coureur, of dat er aanpassingen nodig zijn geweest?

      stuurtje is hetzelfde, alleen dat kan ieder naar smaak inrichten. Hij zal het wel iets anders hebben dan anderen, maar elke coureur heeft voorkeur.

      Het stuur is zo aangepast dat hij met een flipper kan op en terug schakelen. Cockpit rand is aangepast om ruimte te geven aan zijn handen.

      Ik weet niet of ie links of rechtshandig was (nu natuurlijk links), maar het lijkt me een serieuze beperking bij het sturen. Hoeveel kracht zou hij met rechts kunnen overbrengen? Hoe meer moeite dat kost, hoe minder de coördinatie. Als het hem lukt om een stoeltje te bemachtigen en vervolgens competitief te zijn (lees: zo'n driekwart seconde sneller dan Stroll over een rondje komend seizoen) maak ik een hele diepe buiging

      Volgens mij is het grootste probleem z'n rechter elleboog, waar weinig beweging in zit. Daarom was er idd iets meer ruimte in de cockpit gecreerd. Z'n stuur was niet aangepast, op de persoonlijke voorkeuren na.

    Gelukkig blijft hij zelf realistsich, al zal hij knap teleurgesteld zijn als het niet lukt. Of deze opmerkingen mss al een stukje indekken zijn en hij zelf al meer weet?

      Zover ik Kubica heb leren kennen in het verleden en nu, heeft hij liever de wetenschap of hij het idd wel kan of niet kan. Lukt het niet, dan weet hij in ieder geval dat hij, Renault en Williams er alles aan gedaan hebben om het te laten slagen. Dus hij zal hoogstens iets teleurgesteld zijn, maar echt rouwig, dat geloof ik niet.

    Van mij mag Kubica het voordeel van de twijfel krijgen, vond hem destijds altijd een goede en spectaculaire rijder. Echter, in deze tijd is het ook erg van belang hoeveel sponsorgeld hij mee kan nemen voor een zitje bij Williams. Maar....aan de andere kant, als Williams hem wel neemt weten ze ook zeker dat ze het seizoen alle aandacht, zoniet de meeste aandacht, van de pers krijgen...zal ook geregeld dan in beeld komen, en dat is natuurlijk ook belangrijk voor de overige sponsors van t team. En.... niet te onderschatten wat Lance Stroll van hem vind als collega....mocht de klik er zijn tussen die twee, dan kijkt Stroll Sr. niet op een miljoentje meer of minder. Stroll Sr. heeft een aardige vinger in de pap bij Williams....
