Pascal Wehrlein: "Ik heb alles gegeven, maar weet niet hoe het verder gaat"

Met alleen nog een vacant stoeltje bij Williams heeft Pascal Wehrlein nog een troef in handen om onderdeel te blijven van het Formule 1-circus. De Duitser werd door Sauber bedankt voor zijn bewezen diensten, ondanks het feit dat hij vijf punten scoorde met de ondermaatse wagen van het team.

Wehrlein werd in 2016 in de Formule 1 gebracht als het talent van Mercedes, maar die rol is inmiddels overgenomen door Esteban Ocon bij Force India. Voor Wehrlein lijkt zijn loopbaan in de Formule 1 te einde te zijn gekomen: "Het is niet fijn om in een situatie als deze te zitten, maar ik kan er niets aan veranderen. Ik heb mijn best gedaan de afgelopen twee jaar en ik hoop dat mijn puntenfinishes met ondermaatse wagens genoeg zijn geweest om de ogen van de teams te openen. Het was voor mij zeer lastig in de tweede helft van het seizoen om te laten zien waartoe ik in staat ben, de achterstand van onze auto ten opzichte van de concurrenten was simpelweg te groot. Ik heb zeker wel goede races gehad in de tweede helft van het jaar, maar dat was niet zichtbaar omdat we dan alsnog als laatste eindigden."

Ik niet .
Waarom niet ? Omdat ik vind dat die fruitautomaat niet meer in de F1 hoort .
Zulke zitjes horen naar jonge coureurs te gaan , naar Wehrlein of naar Robin Frijns en niet naar een overjarige , eenhandige coureur .
Vroeger een goede , nu niet meer.......

      Waarom niet ? Omdat ik vind dat die fruitautomaat niet meer in de F1 hoort .

      Helaas speelt geld en politiek tegenwoordig een te grote rol in F1. Geld heeft uiteraard altijd wel een rol gespeelt en politiek in mindere mate ook wel, maar in de moderne F1 is het echt de pan uit gerezen.

      Een jongen als Frijns had 10 a 15 jaar terug waarschijnlijk 3 contracten kunnen tekenen in F1, en men had ook voor een jongen als Wehrlein gevochten.

      Sorry @ouw-sjagerijn maar niets hoort. Laat een ervaren rijder als Kubica maar etaleren wat hij kan ten opzichte van de jongeren.

      @Senna. Vraag het aan Janneman Lammers en hij zal je vertellen dat het in zijn (lang verspreide) tijd niet anders was.

      Het enige verschil is dat je toen nog wel eens met een vierderangs barrel kon meedoen aan de pre-kwalificatie en daarna weer naar huis kon en je voorbereiden op de volgende net niet kwalificatie.

    Zonde als hij verdwijnt, hopelijk vindt hij nog een testzitje om dan in 2019 weer in te stromen. Maar voor 2018 helaas geen race stoeltje. Is geen absolute kampioen maar wel een goede subtopper.

      Ben bang dat zijn F1 avontuur afgelopen is. Hij heeft vorige week al
      "racing driver F1" van zijn Instagram en Twitter verwijderd. :-(
      Op zijn Instagram staat alleen nog: " DTM Champion 2015".

    Ik heb toch het idee dat pascal in de ogen van mercedes niet goed gereden heeft dit jaar. Als mercedes hem echt zou willen houden, lijkt het mij toch lochies dat mercedes alles op alles zou zetten om hem te houden.

    Ik hoop dat pascal bij williams aan de gang kan, want ik zie persoonlijk kubica er niet rijden.

      Ik vraag mij ook af waarom het zolang duurt, dat verhaal van de verzekeringsgeld daar geloof ik niet in. Je hoort weer andere namen, we wachten maar af, als ik eerlijk ben zie ik ook liever een jonge coureur komen.
