Williams legde het qua ontwikkeling af tegen Force India

Het team van Williams heeft dit seizoen net als vorig jaar zijn meerdere moeten erkennen in Force India. De Britse renstal eindigde net als in 2016 op een vijfde plaats in het kampioenschap voor constructeurs, een plekje achter Force India. Williams heeft het vooral op gebied van ontwikkeling laten liggen, geeft directeur Paddy Lowe toe.

Hij verklaarde aan Autosport: "We begonnen het seizoen met een auto die over het algemeen sneller was dan die van hen. We sloten het jaar af met een wagen die over het algemeen langzamer was dan die van Force India. Ergens onderweg hebben we dus redelijk wat terrein prijsgegeven wat betreft de performance."

"Beide teams hebben achter de schermen geprobeerd zich zo goed mogelijk te ontwikkelen en Force India is daar beter in geslaagd dan wij. Het is nu aan ons om daarvan te herstellen en deze winter met de nieuwe auto een grotere stap te maken dan de stap die zij maken. Renault heeft gedurende het seizoen trouwens ook aardige progressie geboekt."

Williams heeft aan het begin van het seizoen mede door de onervarenheid van Lance Stroll mogelijkheden laten liggen. "In de eerste seizoenshelft hadden we vaak een snellere auto dan Force India, maar we scoorden niet de punten die daarbij hoorden. Vooral met Lance zijn mogelijkheden onbenut gebleven. Aangezien hij een rookie was, viel een moeizamere eerste seizoenshelft te verwachten. Die factor droeg bij aan de betere score voor Force India", aldus Lowe.

Williams eindigde het seizoen uiteindelijk met meer dan honderd punten minder dan Force India.

niet alleen tegen force india... ze stonden er eerst redelijk voor en opeens staan ze achter meerdere zoals Toro Rosso. (niet in het einde resultaat natuurlijk)

  Kans bestaat zomaar dat Williams in 2018 nog twee posities zal zakken als McLaren (zeker) en Renault (misschien) ze passeren in het WK.

  De organisatie is waar Lowe voor gekomen is. De coureurs, sja daarvoor zal eerst toch financieel ruimte moeten zijn.

  @Beri: En wat hebben we zien verbeteren sindsdien? Dat ze nog altijd geen coureur aangekondigd hebben? Dat ze, ondanks een gezonde huishouding nog steeds op zoek zijn naar een coureur met geld? Dat ze ook geen aankondigingen hebben gedaan over versterkingen of herstructureringen?
  
  @Snelrondje Dat ze wat mindere coureurs hebben betekent niet dat het moet kunnen gebeuren dat ze het gewoon gigantisch afleggen tegen het veel kleinere Force India. Het percentage dat de auto deel uitmaakt van de snelheid is daarvoor te groot. Vergeet verder niet dat ze met Bottas ook al het aflegden tegen Force India.

Daar had Esteban Ocon geen last van gelukkig, die heeft maandenlang overal ter wereld in een oude Williams F1 auto kunnen testen en zat 24/7 in de simulator. Of was dat toch Stroll?

Leuk die excuses, maar de prestaties van Williams waren gewoon ondermaats en die van Force India gewoon top!
