Alonso stapt uit comfort zone met 24 uur van Daytona

Fernando Alonso meent dat het deelnemen aan wedstrijden buiten de Formule 1 hem een betere coureur maken. Dat zegt de Spanjaard aan de vooravond van zijn eerste test op Daytona voor de 24-uursrace aldaar.

In 2017 nam Alonso voor het eerst deed aan de Indianapolis 500 en dat deed hij bijzonder verdienstelijk. Eind januari zal hij wederom iets nieuws proberen: de 24 uur van Daytona. Daar doet hij mee met United Autosports, het team van McLaren-directeur Zak Brown. Deze week zal de Spanjaard voor het eerst testen op het Amerikaanse circuit en daar kan hij niet op wachten. "Het doet me deugd om terug te keren naar de Verenigde Staten en de Amerikaanse fans. Binnen een jaar zal ik deelgenomen hebben aan twee legendarische wedstrijden en dat vervult me met trots", aldus Alonso.

"Ik heb mezelf altijd willen uitdagen in andere categorieën, want dat is wat je nodig hebt om beter te worden. Om uit mijn comfort zone te kruipen en deel te nemen aan een iconische wedstrijd als de 24 uur van Daytona is geweldig. Ik kijk ernaar uit om in actie te komen met United Autosports, de regerend Europese LMP3-kampioen."

Daaraan voegt Alonso nog toe: "Iedereen zorgde ervoor dat ik me welkom en deel van de familie voelde bij de eerste test in november in Spanje. Ik ben blij dat ik meer tijd met het team en mijn teamgenoten kan doorbrengen de komende paar dagen tijdens de eerste test op Daytona. Ik kan niet wachten om weer in te stappen en op de legendarische oval te rijden. De afgelopen tijd heb ik een aantal wedstrijden op Daytona teruggekeken en dat heeft mijn enthousiasme verder aangewakkerd. Het wordt een mooie tijd!"

Wat een onzin! Alonso heeft nooit voor het geld gekozen, hij heeft overal en altijd de sportieve uitdaging voorop gesteld.

Waar mensen dat telkens vandaan halen is mij een raadsel. Al zijn keuzes zijn logisch te verklaren op het moment dat hij ze nam.

Als je gewend was om prijzen te winnen en de laatste jaren 0,0 ben je geneigd om buiten de F1 iets te zoeken om de win spirit hoog te houden.
Het is zonde om iemand als Alonso te zien worstelen, echter hij koos toentertijd voor het geld dusss.

  geld is naast de sportieve vooruitzichten altijd een belangrijke factor, voor iedere coureur

  Hij zat goed bij Ferrari, het ging toentertijd bergafwaarts met McLaren.
  Hamilton is niet voor niets weggegaan bij McLaren, hij zag de bui al hangen.

  Hij zat helemaal niet goed bij Ferrari, en wilde niet voor 3 jaar tekenen na de ellende in 2014, en kreeg toen mot met Mattiacci en is gaan rondkijken. McLaren was voor hem een gok, afgedekt met een degelijk salaris. En uiteindelijk de enige optie. Poen komt bij hem sowieso al aanwaaien want men stond altijd al met miljoenen te wapperen voor m.

  Zo is dat en Alonso heeft dit (Indy 500, Daytona, Le Mans) volgens eigen zeggen al jaren proberen te doen, maar dat lukte niet met zijn vorige teambazen, dus dat hij het alleen zou doen om de spirit hoog te houden nadat het in de F1 niet meezat klopt ook niet.

Ik kijk nu al uit naar een strijd tussen Frijns en Alonso tijdens die race, zou gaaf zijn als dat gebeurd!
