Honda bevestigt Super GT-team voor Jenson Button in 2018

Honda heeft officieel bevestigd dat Jenson Button komend seizoen zal gaan deelnemen aan de Super GT-series. De wereldkampioen van 2009 zal onderdeel gaan uitmaken van Team Kunimitsu.

Ervaren collega naast Button

Button besloot eind 2016 dat het na zeventien seizoenen Formule 1 genoeg was geweest en ging met pensioen. Afgelopen seizoen stapte hij nog één keer achter het stuur van de McLaren om Fernando Alonso te vervangen die de Indy 500 ging rijden. Begin december werd tijdens het Honda Racing-festival al bekend dat hij de Super GT-series zou gaan racen, maar wie zijn teamgenoten zouden zijn bleef nog geheim.

De Brit krijgt een ervaren Super GT-coureur als collega: Naoki Yamamoto. Hij won meerdere races en werd in 2013 Super Formule kampioen. De eerste race is 20 april op het circuit van Suzuka.
