Tost acht de Formule 1 zeker haalbaar voor Sean Gelael

Sean Gelael heeft het absoluut in zich om het ooit tot de Formule 1 te schoppen. Dat zegt Scuderia Toro Rosso-teambaas Franz Tost in een gesprek met de website van de Indonesische coureur. Gelael kwam vorig jaar al vier keer in een vrije training voor Toro Rosso in actie. De verwachting is dat hij komend seizoen weer een aantal oefensessies voor zijn rekening mag nemen, maar racen voor Prema in de Formule 2 vormt de hoofdmoot.

Daar moet Gelael bewijzen dat hij Formule 1-waardig is. Tost gelooft dat de 21-jarige Indonesiër het in zich heeft. "Afgaande op zijn persoonlijkheid is de Formule 1 zeker haalbaar voor Sean. Veel hangt af van hoe iemand zich ontwikkelt. Toen onze huidige coureurs in de Formule 1 arriveerden heb ik ze medegedeeld dat ze nu overal hard aan moesten gaan werken. Dat doe ik altijd, want coureurs denken soms dat ze zodra ze de Formule 1 gehaald hebben niets meer hoeven te doen."

"Het tegendeel is waar, in de Formule 1 begint het pas. Je moet 365 dagen per jaar voor de Formule 1 leven. Daarbij ga ik uit van vijf pilaren. Ten eerste moet je een begenadigd coureur zijn. Ten tweede dien je een passie voor de sport te voelen. Ten derde is het zaak om gedisciplineerd te leven. De vierde pilaar is dat je innovatief moet zijn. Tot slot dien je het juiste karakter te ontwikkelen. Persoonlijkheid is niet iets dat je hebt, het is een proces."

"Sean beschikt over deze eigenschappen. Nu is het aan hem om het meeste uit deze situatie te halen. Hij heeft het talent om iets te doen. Of hij ooit Formule 1-races kan winnen, dat is op dit moment lastig in te schatten. Eerst moet hij de Formule 1 nog zien te bereiken. Hij kan een stap zetten door in de Formule 2 goed te presteren bij Prema, dat is een fantastisch team. Hij moet de passie hebben, houden van autosport, gedisciplineerd zijn en continu dingen verzinnen om beter te worden dan de rest."

Gelael scoorde vorig seizoen zeventien punten op weg naar een vijftiende plaats in de Formule 2. Komend seizoen is hij de teamgenoot van Nyck de Vries in het voorportaal van de Formule 1.

Tost steekt Galeal nog even wat veren in zijn reet, er gaan geruchten dat Torro Rosso dit jaar met de geel/rode Yagonya Ajam (de Indonesische tak van KFC) liverey gaat rijden waar pappa Galeal de grote baas van is.

Tja, hij heeft de poen achter zich dus kan het. En het talent, tja, niets indrukwekkend aan maar in ieder geval ook niet heel treurig. De man zou op puur talent de F1 niet gehaald hebben, er is een reden dat Red Bull met alle data die ze van hem hebben hem niet in hun talentenprogramma opneemt.

Ik heb zelden zo’n slechte coureur bezig gezien. Ik begin ernstig te twijfelen aan Frans Tost zijn verstandelijke vermogens. Echt van het padje.

Nou Nick,
als jij die gast nou dik verslaat dan zou je dus kans moeten maken op een zitje in de F1.
Als McLaren het dan niet ziet zitten in je (hebben nog een Engelsman achter de hand die nog beter is, denken ze) dan zou Red Bull je misschien nog op kunnen nemen... Moet je wel gewoon "ff" kampioen worden met een mega voorsprong op de rest uiteraard.
