Oud-coureur Dani Clos voegt zich bij esports-team

Dani Clos heeft een nieuwe roeping gevonden. De 29-jarige Spanjaard, die in 2012 als testcoureur van HRT F1 Team zes keer in actie kwam tijdens een vrijdagtraining, gaat zich toeleggen op esports. Hij heeft samen met het Spaanse team KIYF eSports de racetak KIYF DC eRacing opgericht. Eerder richtten Fernando Alonso en Renault al eigen esports-teams op.

Clos vertelde aan AS: "Ik ben al enige tijd geïnteresseerd in de wereld van de esports. Dat stamt uit de tijd dat ik begon met mijn samenwerking met Playstation als ambassadeur van Gran Turismo Sport. Toen ik een mentor was in de GT Academy zag ik ook al dat dit een wereld met een enorme potentie is."

"Het is de toekomst, het is een toegankelijke vorm van sport en de drempel om deel te nemen is heel laag. Ik wilde mijn steentje bijdragen bij een project als dit. KIYF en ik vormen een perfect duo om de esports te laten groeien en iets moois neer te zetten."

KIYF is sinds 2012 actief in de wereld van de esports. Het is in eerste instantie niet de bedoeling dat Dani Clos zelf gaat meedoen aan races, al is hij druk doende om zijn vaardigheden op dat vlak te verbeteren. De Spanjaard geeft echter aan nog altijd de voorkeur te geven aan een echte racewagen.
